drew allen's qb ratings on different sections of the field

what in the hell is up with that? it might just be random, it makes no sense.

did something terrible happen to him at midfield as a child where he's having horrific flashbacks

Situation Rating
Own 1 To 20 Yd Ln 134.7
Own 21 To 39 Yd Ln 106.5
Own 40 To Opp 40 Yd Ln 58.42
Opp 39 To 21 Yd Ln 122.8
Opp 20 To 1 Yd Ln (RZ) 157.8

That's the first set of raw data I have seen in a long time that makes you go hmmm...

it's the opposite of what should happen.

backed up, you're scared of a safety. red zone, there's less room to stretch the defense. i can't figure it out.

down and distant might be a facture. Do we get stuffed more at midfield when running as the opposing team see's a strong trend in the run game.

Are we taking more shots down the field there , where we haven't completed diddly?

Are we more predictable there, when we should be less predictable?

Because we have more space are we running different patterns that aren't conducive to the QB and WR having as much success such as timing routes? The play book is probably wider there.

hell, maybe teams want Syracuse to get to the 40. look just let them go and they'll turn it over at midfield. maybe we'll start seeing teams take a knee at the 40 on 4th and 10

Do you have the same data points for Hunt?

they have thrown 7 ints on third down while having less pass attempts than on 1st. down while throwing 4.

plus these two have more pass attempts on 1st. downs than 3rd. downs.

Could be a difference in facing run defenses on 1st vs known passing situations on 3rd down.

still puzzling. he had great field position with a lot of blocked punts against scrubs but on the syracuse side of midfield, 133 to 71 is quite a drop off

could just be random, but for both guys?

http://www.cfbstats.com/2013/player/688/1041608/passing/situational.html

So both QB's suck between the 40's which is not a surprise for anyone that has been watching.

Is it due to play calling? What else could possibly be the issue to see such a stark drop for one segment?

You're a smart guy, what do you see that we could possibly change for a different result in that segment?

Own 1 To 20 Yd Ln 63.85
Own 21 To 39 Yd Ln 133.39
Own 40 To Opp 40 Yd Ln 71.17
Opp 39 To 21 Yd Ln 173.38
Opp 20 To 1 Yd Ln (RZ) 207.02

i think it's just random luck. i think if they played enough, the numbers would end up showing that they stink all over the field. hopefully they don't play enough to prove it

play calling.

give me Allen, with smith & PTG at midfield, till we get through the badlands.

ive seen enough of hunt to last a lifetime.

for those that aren't obsessed with passer rating, here are raw numbers between the 40s

32 for 71, 295 yards, 1 td, 8 int.

we average 6.42 yards per carry between the 40s

stop throwing the *cking ball

This is great work. That stat is pretty mystifying. Between the 40s should be the most wide open area of the field.

Do you have data on any more successful QBs (college or pro) to see if this is a common phenomena?
Decided to look at the link before lazily hitting Post and here's a few:

Taj Boyd:
Own 1 To 20 Yd Ln 169.87
Own 21 To 39 Yd Ln 185.80
Own 40 To Opp 40 Yd Ln 156.02
Opp 39 To 21 Yd Ln 95.16
Opp 20 To 1 Yd Ln (RZ) 224.21

Johnny Manziel:
Own 1 To 20 Yd Ln 208.56
Own 21 To 39 Yd Ln 213.89
Own 40 To Opp 40 Yd Ln 159.59
Opp 39 To 21 Yd Ln 168.93
Opp 20 To 1 Yd Ln (RZ) 184.26

Teddy Bridgewater:
Own 1 To 20 Yd Ln 162.00
Own 21 To 39 Yd Ln 155.66
Own 40 To Opp 40 Yd Ln 189.77
Opp 39 To 21 Yd Ln 216.86
Opp 20 To 1 Yd Ln (RZ) 217.45

AJ McCarron:
Own 1 To 20 Yd Ln 115.89
Own 21 To 39 Yd Ln 131.66
Own 40 To Opp 40 Yd Ln 165.00
Opp 39 To 21 Yd Ln 197.00
Opp 20 To 1 Yd Ln (RZ) 232.63

About the only correlation I noticed was that the interval with the lowest rating was generally, but not always, the one with the most passing attempts.

These are some strange numbers. I have to agree that over the season these should even out more. Maybe when we get inside the 40's we tend to be safe with the play calling and when we get to mid field we open it up? That is the only real explanation I can come up with off the top of my head.

Maybe use Allen outside the 40s and Hunt between the 40s using a read option. :noidea:

Has to do with relative proximity of the QB to the cheerleaders and which downs they yell louder on. Desperation and fear by coaches and receivers, order of running plays, and timing of sun coming out from behind the clouds has nothing to do with it. Really, we need to get a highly trained dual-threat monkey who can read to throw darts at a board to choose the order of plays and I'm sure the numbers will all reverse.
