Somebody on youtube put the 1989 S16 game against Mizzou online

I watched the game and it was a good blast from the past. This was such a good team. I forget Derrick Coleman was hurt during this tournament run and that could have made the difference. Also, haha Billy Packer you picked Mizzou to win and were wrong as usual.

I just re-watched this game for about the 100th time in December 2014, when my dad was visiting for the holidays!

Great game! We went on something like a 18-0 run in the second half to break open an otherwise close contest. Recommended viewing for those who aren't familiar with how good that 1989 squad was.

Man, I loved that team...

No kidding. That Missouri team was LOADED. They had a few guys who went on to play in the NBA, they had depth, and they had a TON of size. They were a legit top 10-ish team.

Our players were just better. BTW, that was the second time we beat them that season. They might have been a final four caliber team if anybody else besides us had been in their path.

I laugh when people say this years uk team is one of the all time greats. Imo not only would they not beat the 2012 uk squad but this 89 SU team would spank them, and they didnt even make the FF. Thats the direction college ball is going...

i believe we beat the Hall 3 x that year. i was rooting for the hall to win just so I could say we beat the champs thrice in one year

I mean watch this game and watch today's college hoops its night and day. There was a midrange game, teams ran and the shot clock was barely a factor till late in the game. Teams need to watch how college basketball used to be played.

This is so true. This years UK team has a couple big guards who aren't really PG. Ulis is a PG but is young. They have no real swing forwards unless you count Booker who is more of a guard IMO. They are loaded at the 4/5 but again none of these guys as freshman and sophs are as good as the players that were around 3/4 years in the 80's.
