The article does not say that UCon consulted with the NCAA compliance com. Even the UCon pres participated in the discussion and they didn't consult the ncaa? Unbelievable, if true. This is an obvious intent to get around the regs. So many of these players would qualify for financial aid that if this is allowed the whole ncaa scholly limitation would be worthless.

The distinction seems to be that a player can't be "recruited" and be a walk-on. So, was the 6-10 Bradley not "recruited"?

It's more beneficial to try to win a title and deal with consequences afterwards than take precautions ahead of time. See: Auburn. See Oregon. See UConn.

Until the NCAA changes the way it does business, it's benefiting these teams to go for it all and worry about the consequences later.
