said this was the best Freshmen class in 35 years and I am beginning to think he was right. He also said these kids might not contribute right away, but before they are done we will know all about them

Yup, I was standing there with you. However, he said the best freshman class in 15 yrs! :)

Yeah, I was going to ask just now exactly who was in the Class of '79?

I was just talking with Texanmark about that after those comments recently...not 15 years and after reading my original post it was 30 years. Maybe Mark can bitch slap me or confirm.

And FWER I was thinking around '80 when that comment was made. 3/4 of a quart of Moonshine and the rest of a bottle of Vodka does cloud one's memory.

Glad we've got so much talent, but not sure why we're using players like Cordy and Bennett in such a limited way. To me, it's only worth burning the redshirt if the kid can contribute to the team in meaningful minutes.

On that note...Custis? Sorry to see him getting the Johnny Morant treatment.

Are Cordy and Bennett getting run on ST? If so, and they make us better, I don't have a problem with it.

We need to win NOW

I hadn't noticed before today. I think Bennett might have played a bit earlier in the year but don't recall seeing #28 out there. Ditto for #17, who's apparently Jonathan Thomas.

Rodney Williams who was getting a ton of praise and most likely will be our starting FS next year also got his shirt burned in the 1st game before he got hurt. Maybe he is still eligible to get one? PJ Bennett is in same category. Jonathan Thomas only seems to play on ST's, and Dowels and Cordy rarely get on field. Really wish these kids could have redshirted if they weren't going to be on at least 2nd string

With that said this class has a chance to be special. imo Zaire Franklin is the best MIKE we have on the team right now. Would love to see him get more reps. That play he made on the sideline today where he used his speed would not have been made by Hodge.

I really hope Ward works himself back into shape. Reeally interested to see how the 2 offensive lineman turn out.

Not sure what happened to Custis either? His playing time has been basically slashed to nothing.

never noticed that Bennett was getting game time...wow good for him

I'm fairly certain that if you participate for even one play, you are no longer eligible to redshirt. Maybe you are confusing this with medical hardship?

Fetterly. 15 years.

They both got injured and I don't believe have played since.

Thought someone posted it. Not strategic anyways, just an opinion.

Just bustin ya. It was mentioned before. And, it is a very well informed opinion, IMHO.

you can red shirt if you play in the first 4 games and then get hurt and have a documented injury. its not clear though how much the injury has to keep you out. so if you get hurt in game one and not cleared until game 8 can you still RS or not.. thats a question for the reporters to look into .

Rob Konrad burn his red shirt? I can't remember. Still the most impressive frosh size wise at rb in my 20 years of cuse fandom

What I am saying is that there is a definite difference between redshirting and seeking a medical hardship. You can not redshirt after playing even a single play unless you meet eligibility requirements for a hardship waiver after sustaining a season ending injury.

I didn't realize that Dowels has been playing, too. That's a bummer. I agree - if you're not going to make second string, a redshirt's probably a good idea. In Dowels's case, we're seeing like 99% Whigham and Reddish (who was great yesterday, by the way) in the rotation since Morgan got hurt. If the redshirt is gone, send him out there.
