under 2 losses. Not sure if its true.
Not sure if that means the old big east with the new big east, but a interesting stat netherless.

St Johns went 15-1 in 1984-85 in a 16 game schedule.

Nobody's done better than 16-2 in an 18 game schedule.

The stat that Dan Shulman said on Saturday was that no Big East team has ever finished the regular season with fewer than 2 losses which includes non-conference games as well. What Shulman was saying is that with our 1 loss it would be the fewest to ever finish a Big East season. So 30-1 would be the record not the 17-1 because in 1984-1985 St. John's had atleast 1 non-conference loss.

UConn (1998-99) ... 34-2. Won BET and NC.

Georgetown (1983-84) ... 34-3. Won BET and NC.
Georgetown (1984-85) ... 35-3. Finished reg season with 2 losses, won BET, lost to Nova in NC.

St Johns (1984-85) ... 31-4. Finished reg season with 2 losses, lost to Georgetown in BET and FF.

UConn was 17-1 in the Big East in 1996.
True, but did UConn play everyone in the conference that year?

It was the age of the BE7, and the BE6.

EDIT: They did play everyone at least once that season.

... because in 1984-1985 St. John's had atleast 1 non-conference loss.
The Redmen lost to Niagara and Georgetown in the regular season. They then managed to lose to Georgetown in the BET final and again in the Final Four.

It was the year when the Big East had 3 teams in the Final Four.
