Sorta OT: Rob Gronkowski (Syracuse connection) sets world record...

Can someone do the math on how fast it would be moving

Here's a calculator. Get your metric conversions ready.

I used 12 ounces for the weight of the ball. College footballs generally weight between 11 and 12 ounces.
For you people that are not drug dealers, or are American, that is .34 kilograms.

604 feet converts to just over 184 meters.

135.335 miles per hour.

The Splat calculator gave these results:
  • Speed at impact:60.05 m/s
  • or216.19 km/h
  • Time until impact: 6.13 s
  • Energy at impact: 613.09 joules
For those who are American, I converted the meters/second to MPH.

60.5 meters per second = 135.335 miles per hour

So those balls were coming down really fast. Rob is lucky he didn’t break a finger trying that.

What's the terminal velocity of a football? It didn't look like it was much faster than a normal punt.

From what I read it would be in he 80-90 mph.. its like why a drop of water only goes so fast.. a baseball never gets above a 100 no matter how high you drop it really.

hardest part is with wind it might be curving pretty good coming down

Yikes - god forbid professional athletes have fun during their career. To me, Gronk is a breath of fresh air. Sure he's goofy but he's living his best life. Athletes are waaaay too concerned with what people think about them these days. Gronk is having fun.
Hes a fun tool

From the way he was shading his eyes, it also looked like the sun was in his eyes from where they dropped the ball.
