The Rams distributed 51,792 tickets for yesterday's OT home win against the Seahawks, but the fans in the stands "probably numbered around 45,000 in the 66,000-seat Edward Jones Dome." It was the "smallest crowd for a home opener since the Rams moved to St. Louis" in '95 . The Rams fans "who did attend roared in approval, drowning out the Seahawks loyalists who gobbled up many of the tickets" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 9/14)

For those who don't follow the NFL, the Rams have been mediocre-to-atrocious over the past decade. They haven't had a winning season since 2003, and are a tidy 57-119 over the past 11 seasons.

The population of the metro St. Louis area is 2.8 million people.

I get that our attendance is lacking, and that as diehards we'd all like to see it be better since it can impact our ability to recruit.

But the people of CNY and our alumni are hardly unique in their behavior. Teams that are mediocre-to-bad over an extended amount of time simply do not draw.

every time i click on your posts, a boston radio station streams to my computer.

as for the rams, i guess thats why theyre going back to LA.

but it certainly doesnt say much for them getting a 3rd team...

Yeah but our owner also is not in the middle of a deal to move Syracuse to LA for a new stadium. At least I hope not , never know with all this new stadium talk.

like Syracuse, they have to compete against a St Louis team in another sport.

you can only go to so many games. they choose to go to baseball games because baseball is always good.

as long as basketball is good, football attendance is going to be spotty. how many times are people expected to spend a day at the dome?

places like buffalo are rare (small population supports 2 sports despite both being bad a lot more often than being good)

The New England Patriots, in a run down stadium with a crappy product, were the bottom of the attendance barrel back in 91 and 92. Just looked at the attendance numbers at Sullivan/Foxboro Stadium. Many games under 35k attended.

This is a major 6th market in the US and no one cared two s about the Patriots until A) Parcells showed up and B) they started winning. Syracuse doesn't have a savior coach (who was hired away from other interested parties) but def can solve the first part with winning.

I went to a game on 12/26/93 against the Colts at the old Foxboro Stadium. Parcells first season. Pats were 3-11 at that point IIRC. I bought end zone tickets for $20 5 minutes before kickoff. There were 35K there, tops.

Hell, markets that are bonkers about certain teams, see NY for the Yankees or Boston for the Sox, see attendance declines the second the team is out of the race. It's just... the way it is. CNY is not some special snowflake.
