"Hopkins, who played for Boeheim at Syracuse from 1989 to 1993, has been the top assistant under Boeheim for the last five years, even though Fine held the title associate head coach. The source said that Fine was promoted but not given a raise at the time and remained bitter about the Hopkins promotion."

"According to the source, Fine and Hopkins' relationship has not been the same since."

great, now we are hearing the staff held grudges with each other and had dysfunctional relationships. i don't see anything to lead to JB to be fired or resign, but all of this 'i wasnt involved in the investigation, 'it wasn't my business to know' and apparent inability to maintain harmony within the staff has certainly impacted my view of him as a leader.

JoePa planned on staying too. Issued a statement about it as well.

JB needs to understand its not his call anymore. By opening his mouth 10 days ago or so and attacking the victims he gave up that right because he was proven wrong.

Maybe JB stays maybe he goes, but its' not his call.

BFD. Really. I'd expect Fine was bent that he effectively got passed over by Mike - if they remained professional that's really all that matters.

If companies fired everyone that had personality conflicts with each other, no firm would have more than three employees

cusefan95, you are so right. Not to be too sexist, but I have never seen woman (sorry cto) at the highest levels, ever get along. Some top execs actually like friction between top advisors. Top Presidential advsiors famously don't get along in both dem and repub administrations. President Reagan's sec of defense and sec of state hated each other. No one got along with Kennedy advisor Kenny O'donnell.

wait a minute, was fine proven guilty of something? i had not seen that. you have been sensationalizing toward the negative all day. take a step back from the keyboard and go to bed.

What - Bernie thought he was going to get the nod? Also - the well placed source would probably be best advised to just keep his head down and mouth shut so he can come out the other side.

It was a "source" who said it not JB. And "no intention of stepping down" only means he isn't going to retire or quit over this. He must be fully aware that the choice of staying really isn't his to make at this point. It's just that he will force the University to fire him.

I find it funny that Bernie was p*ssed at being passed over. If he was going to outlast JB to become coach he would have been Ray Meyer old by the time he took over.

You ought to just draft one single post and then just copy/paste in every thread, and save yourself the time and effort of typing.
Because, you know, we haven't gotten your point yet.

I like how the discharged priest is still making waves - why doesn't the media point out crap like that?

Also, maybe fine was upset about not being able to go on recruiting trips after Hop and Troy got the nod?

I wouldn't be surprised if the source was none other than James Arthur Boeheim.

More likely Hopkins. Great PR for him to have "sources" distancing him from Fine; if JB get fired it's gotta help him step in as head coach and not get fired himself.

Just for clarification, I DO NOT believe the source was actually Mike

I just asked in another thread but I'll ask here as well... Does anyone know or have an idea of how hard it would be for Cantor/BOT to get around Hopkins' "iron-clad" contract if they wanted to clean house?

I think there are too many variables for anyone to give you an firm answer. My guess would be it would work like any other firing - try to negotiate a buy-out and part ways. But there are other factors that can complicate things.

Seems pretty clear it's Hop. As I suggested above, Hop should just stay the hell out of it.

I guess I'm hoping it was someone really, really close to Hopkins but not actually Mike...if he is talking to the media it is a very dangerous decision on his part.

I am getting rather sick of your posts, Stern.

Brilliantly leaked. Well done, Jim. This is the way to play.

A couple things about the article...

1. The Road to Recovery guy is an idiot. If JB stays you may end up with an asset in the fight against child abuse. One who is very charitable, a high-profile guy, and VERY outspoken... in other words, the perfect lightning rod to get your message out. Unless something comes out that he had knowledge, you would be a pea-wit for wanting to see a possible ally of his magnitude dismissed just for the sake of it.

2. By the sounds of it, the biggest crime by the current staff was putting up with Bernie's . He wasn't recruiting, wasn't heir apparent, and for God sakes, his lack of head coaching acumen forced JB to come back from cancer surgery!! He did not deserve higher pay, and may have been more of a hindrance than asset long before the news broke. Yet he was given a title out of respect, and JB's loyalty. Bitter old fart.

all day... LOL, I was at work all day. Way to exaggerate

The part about Hop and Fine not getting along was purposely put out there by a friend of Hop, which could be Hop or JB. The point is to distance the fair-haired by from any Fine stigma.

godforbid someone have a different opinion and express it.

Well, if you express it MANY times it's like getting hit over the head with a hammer. Next time just write a message that says, "Refer to previous posts."
