SU has the nation's #1 special teams unit according to S&P+, a ratings system run by SB Nation's Bill Connelly.

Interesting to see this week's opponent at the bottom of the ACC and pretty close to dead last in the entire country. We should feel pretty confident about Saturday.

It's crazy that not that long ago ST's was an achilles heel with no solution. It's turned around really quickly since HCDB has gotten here.
There isn't an aspect of specials that hasn't been outstanding. Kickoff and punt coverage, punting, and placekicking can't be much better than what we've seen so far. These are the types of things that help you pull out close games

Amazing.

Szymt has been a godsend. Hoftrichter is a great punter, and has given us a weapon on kickoffs that has been absent for awhile.

And we see the benefit of both having bigger, faster, stronger players [example, Williams / Cullen as gunners] on coverage, and using our best athletes on ST [example, starting WR Custis recovering that muffed punt fumble last Saturday].

Finally, having a vastly improved return game for both KO's and punts has given us preferential field position most of the season -- a factor that can't be overlooked.

Hats off to Dino, Lustig, and the players for making ST outcomes truly "special." It's gone from being practically an afterthought to a weapon that helps both the offense AND defense.

I can't believe it's taken so long to take STs seriously again.

That ranking is at risk with Keller out for the rest of the season. Good punts and FGs are as much about the timing that starts with the snapper as anything else. Hope he gets well soon.

You don’t get great at specials with core guys like Shy on on the return and coverage teams

How awesome was it to see KRs coverage tackles getting made inside the 20 at Clemson?

That’s special

You are right, I have a feeling the mods might have deleted some posts ;)
Also I was so over the moon about the hire that it might have blurred my memory lol
Are you saying that thread was "sanitized"...shocking.

Only one deleted post in that thread. :)

I was reading on the Pitt forum that we have a top tier punter and theirs is a Junior HS quality punter.

Big Kudos to Lustig, any coach in charge of one of the 3 major areas that has us #1 in the country is doing and absolute hell of a job.
