OK, OK it was only RI - we get it.

With a healthy Brisly Estime, Jacob Hill and Kenterius Womack (maybe Erv as well), we finally have some speed and elusiveness at kick returns. (Shafer has said that KW and JH will be involved.)

We have a bunch of bigger faster kids on ST and our kicking woes seems to be behind us.
Steve Gregory should help as well with coaching.

Is it possible we can become good at ST? (Average maybe?)

I noticed a BIG diff on ST last night. Again let's see how it looks against real teams, but even the scheme looked better. Still don't love the loping on kick returns...but...

I agree with both of you: I see improvements while I reserve judgment. Reason for hope is better than crossing our fingers, and I do believe we have reason for hope.

Special Teams were outstanding last night. For SU to win a couple more games this year they are going to need the special teams to play at a very high level. The margin for error with this SU team is very thin, so playing solid special teams is a must

Incremental improvement of the roster 1-85. Team speed and athleticism continue to improve. And a commitment to get your young athletes on the field without regard to class standing.

Having Steve Gregory contributing doesn't hurt either.

RI's first KO return was a little scary (resulting in the fumble, but Norton had to make the play), and we missed a longish (45 yd.?) FG attempt. But other than that I was happy with how our ST performed.

I wasn't at the game so I couldn't get a good view of who all was out there on our KO return team, but I remember reading something about change in philosophy about the types of guys we were going to put out there on the return team as well. Instead of so many Db, WR types we were trying to incorporate some of our big young athletic DE's into that middle tier to give it some meat and create some lanes.
