What has happened to the NY sports teams?

Neither the Yankees nor the Mets made the MLB playoffs.

Neither the Giants nor the Jets made the NFL playoffs, and Buffalo is hanging on by the most tenuous of threads.

Neither the Knicks nor the Nets look to have much chance of making the NBA playoffs.

None of the state's three D1 football teams are bowl-eligible (even thought more than half of the nation's teams ARE going to bowls).

Of 22 D1 basketball teams in the state, only one (SJU) is nationally ranked ... and just barely (24 in one poll and NR in the other).

Mets- Years of Bad Management
Knicks- Years of Bad Management
Jets-Years of Bad Management
Bills-Years of Bad Management
Yankees- Management has deterioted, Cashman stinks.
St. Johns-Years of Bad Management, looks like it's being turned around
Giants- Inaction by management due to two fluky superbowls covering up average talent

Hockey looks somewhat better. Rangers were in the cup last year. Islanders look decent this year.

The success of sports teams start at the top. You can change coaches and players, but if owners/GM's don't have a planned vision you are going to stink.

Hal and Hank Steinbrenner rival Dolan for worst owners in the professional sports world.

Steinbrenners may sell the Yankees in the near future. They could fetch probably 5 billion dollars for the NY Yankees.

Knicks, Jets, and Mets are clearly horrible management.

Rangers- are fine hockey the gap between 1 and 16 isn't that huge.

Giants- just need a good OL and they will be fine. Just spend FA money on OL and draft OL in the 1st/2nd round.

Syracuse- just having a rebuilding year.

The Sports Capital of the USA since 2001 has been Boston. Boston has seen all four of its major sports teams win a Championship(yes I am counting the Patriots as they are New England and Boston is located in New England).

No doubt about it, by a huge margin also.

Edit: actually LA is a respectable second. The Lakers have their slew of titles, the Angels won a WS earlier in the decade and they and the Dodgers are regularly in the playoffs, the Kings won two Stanley Cups, and their default NFL team USC was obviously elite up until the last few years.

What happened is that stars no longer have to play in NYC's large market to get nationwide/worldwide coverage. With the slew of sports channels on tv, and of course, the internet, their games and stats can be viewed instantly regardless of where they are playing.

There really is no incentive for major stars to come and play in NY.

I disagree. NYC is still the beast that absolutely rules the media world.

Its terrible management that is keeping the players away, pure and simple.

I don't have the answers, but I will say that's a cool avatar...Now when all the posters talk about seeing you on TV, I'll be able to say I did too.:)

nyc is the sports media capital of the usa. unfortunately BOSTON is the sports capital of the usa. except for the yankees---they have a better history in every other sport

  • the Anaheim Ducks also have a title in this period
  • the Galaxy have won 5 MLS titles
  • the LA Sparks have won two WNBA titles
  • UCLA went to three straight Final Fours
  • UCLA has finished in the top 10 of the Director's Cup 12 of the last 14 years including 30 different national title;
  • USC has done it 7 times including 26 national titles
Is that really a respectable #2, or is it in fact #1?
