Hi y'all. Can't wait for this weekend.

I have been looking for information about the event this weekend. I am bringing two "disadvantaged" young men from one of the local schools that I work in for a reward for their hard work this school year. They are excited as if it was Christmas Eve, and I want to make it a time they will never forget. Just a little encouragement can have a huge life long effect.

I plan on getting to Syracuse early from the Ithaca area and getting them some swag and treating them to a bunch of other things. I have been looking around for information about what things we can get into other than just attending the game and have not found any information. I know in the past there were "kids Fun Zones", autograph signing, etc... Anyone have any information on this weekend? If you could PM me or just post here it would be greatly appreciated. These young men are in 4th grade so I am looking for things around that age range.

I greatly appreciate anything that y'all can offer. Here's to growing young Orangemen.

I believe the team will be signing autographs after the game

there might be a pre game tailgate two blocks down from the box office in the fine lot. free lacrosse game at 3:eek:o after the football scrimmage.

Good for you helping out these kids,i'm sure they earned it.

now that is funny who ever put that emoticon in my post...

Anyone have any idea about the following?
  • Parking for the event? Where exactly is the parking available?
  • What exactly is the the EmPower Credit Union Event at 10? Any ideas? Something for the kids to run around and burn off energy so they're passed out on the ride home, er um, I mean having fun?;) Maybe I can have them run up and down the Dome trying to find my season tickets seats.
Thanks again for any help. I have been looking around on different sites for information but have only found this http://blog.syracuse.com/orangefootball/2012/04/annual_spring_game_offers_a_lo.html.
Nothing on the SUAthletics site.
All though I have been a mega fan all my life, I have only lived in the area for a short time and have had season tickets now for a few years. I'm still trying to get the "lay of the land".

You are a "mega fan" and have had season tickets for a few years, haven't picked your seats yet and you don't know where parking is?

The lots below the dome should be open with free parking.

Here is the info I have on the schedule:

Here's the schedule.

Doors open at 10,
Team takes the field at 11, warm up, drills.
Spring game starts about 12, lasts to between 1 and 1:30

Autograph availability in the 1st level concourse, 4 groups.

Lax game at 3pm.

If you arrive after the scrimmage starts or leave during the break, you will have to pay admission for the lacrosse game. Otherwise it's free.

Club 44 open, free snacks, cash bar.

To the OP, not knowing what they have planned for kids at 10 I would recommend getting there around 1130, getting a seat wont be an issue and the novelty of warm ups wont wear off as fast if you got there at 10. I would also recommend grabbing some breakfest prior to getting to the dome as you will surely need to hit the concession stands between the spring game and Lax game so it will save you time and money. The whole dome is usually open so during halftime or in between the Spring and Lax game you can walk them around the concourse to view the posters and other memorabilia. I would also take full advantage of the post game autograph signing they should have a blast with going on the field.

Thus the quotations. I grew up in TN and from the age of 5 followed SU through newspaper clippings, whatever radio I could get, and word of mouth from family that live in Ogdensberg NY. This was before the internet. I have just recently moved to the area to finish my education and do not live in Syracuse. I commute to all the games and usually purchase my seats at the beginning of the summer once I have raised enough funds to buy a couple and a parking pass. First year I parked in Sky Top, last year I bought a pass in South Manley (huge difference). I know where parking is for the season but I have only been to one spring game. If you would like to see ticket stubs, I would be more than happy to meet up with you sometime this Saturday. I was really looking for help and ideas, but I can handle that too.

You could take a stroll down Marshall Street just to get a feel for it. No need to stop in anyplace, unless you're buying SU gear or food. Be sure to take the kids past the statue of Ernie Davis, adjacent to the Quad, and of course, a peek at the Quad itself. Lots of trophies and history at the East end of the Dome on the Main concourse. Of course, just strolling through the Dome you will see photos of countless SU greats.

Sorry for being suspicious of your post. Enjoy the game.

I have been parking at south manley for so long, I have to admit I am lost when it comes to other parking options.

That's just wrong...Why do people have to be so nasty and better than thou?
Nothing to do with "nasty" or "better". Seemed like a passive-aggressive attempt to complain about lack of info on the spring game. Seemed a little too naive to me so I was suspicious but maybe I've spent too much time looking at syracuse.com posts from trolls.

XC no problem. I actually don't mind the silence this year if it means that we get a bowl game next year.

I just really want to make the most for these young men. They went from coming into the year testing below level to being at or above grade level. I really wish I could provide more info, but they have both gone through a lot of road bumps in life/school and, with hard work from the students and teaching staff, have grown so much. Many students at this level value so much from having positive male role models; thus the desire to have them meet coaches, players, teachers etc... who might have gone through the same issues that they now face and can champion them on towards success. That is what community, America, teachers should be all about. I know many do so much.

Here's the plan so far:

  • pick up and IHOP it
  • Manley football wing to see the trophies/discuss the history of SU, Jim Brown, Ernie etc...
  • Run down to Marshall/ gear them up at Manny's
  • Game
  • Autographs/get on the turf
  • Possibly lax game
  • Pizza
  • Home
Lots of pictures through the day. I am going to wear a name tag or something with my screen name on it this Sat. If anyone sees us around the Dome, please feel more than welcome to give these lads some attention. It really will me a lot to them.
Thanks so much for all the info.

Sounds like a great day for them. Good for you for making it possible.

Good plan. Seems like it can't miss for fun.

Sounds like a fun day for all involved! The IHOP part makes me sad though. So many great (non-chain) diners in CNY. I'm sure many of us here could recommend a few. I'm assuming you're eating in Syracuse, since I don't recall an IHOP in Ithaca. What about Mom's on Westcott? It's an integral part of the S.U. experience and much closer to the Dome.

A trip to Marshall & Manny's is a must, but don't forget to stop into the University Bookstore in Schine. You walk right past it on the way up the hill from Marshall.

I'll echo an earlier poster's recommendation to stop on the quad and visit the Ernie Davis statue. He's an inspiration to all of us, but especially to any young people that have had to overcome adversity.

I'd stick around for the lax game (S.U. beating up on G'town in ANY sport is fun), but your crew might be getting antsy after that many hours in the Dome.

Pizza: lots of good places on Marshall. My personal favorite based on quality of the pie has always been Cosmo's, but Varsity is definitely a unique experience post-game (more so with football and the traditional post-win banner flip). You could also return to Westcott and try Dorian's.

Assuming you park in the University garage or an adjacent lot, the above is a pretty efficient use of your time too. University garage, Marshall shops, Schine Bookstore, Quad/Ernie Davis statue, and Dome are all pretty much in a straight line up the hill.

Mom's is terrific. Stella's by Carousel is my favorite in Syracuse.

memcorsu, you sound like a really nice person.

I admire people like yourself who not only genuinely feel concern and compassion for those that might be less fortunate than some, but also go that extra mile to actually make an effort to do positive things and try and make a difference.

Hope you have a great time.

Ernie of course was/is a must. I will definitely check out Moms.

I like IHOP but if in Syracuse, I love Mother's Cupboard. Can't beat the portions. And in Ithaca, you can hit the State Street Diner on the way out.

I recommended Mom's because it's closest to the Dome. However, in my opinion Mother's Cupboard is the best diner in Syracuse bar none. Can be tough to get a table when they're busy, but always worth the wait!
