I assume declining an NIT invitation also removes you from the first alternate list of replacement teams.

Why not wait until Monday and see if anyone in the field gets COVID?

Or did they have to accept immediately or lose the invitation? Probably this...

Anyone know if we would have declined?

They'll find 16 teams who want to play that usaully end up in the smaller tournaments. Don't blame anyone for declining I am sure this season has felt like an eternity to most of these teams dealing with the pandemic.

That's how I interpreted it, as well. I would actually be surprised if none of these alternate teams were activated.

How do replacement teams work? Is it just for first weekend? after that, if theres a covid forfeit, does the other team just advance?

For instance, a team in the elite 8 gets covid

I hoped we would keeping playing them before this season but I'm good now for a few seasons

The way I read it, a replacement can be brought in only through Tuesday. If any team tests positive after that, their next game will be "No Contest", and their opponent advanced to the next round.
