Stick a fork in north carolina

I remember a lot of people on here were burying UNC last year and putting them in the NIT. That being said, I dunno about this team. The schedule does get a little easier; home Clemson (tough game), @Gtech, NC State, and Maryland. So they do have a chance to get back to 5-5 before Duke comes to town.

I think you mean to say IF we lose, right?

I prefer not to set the bar that high. Let's just get back to the Final Four and see what happens. If we are worried about going undefeated, we might have the same reaction Ohio State had to losing. I'd rather see us shrug off a loss and focus on winning the next one.

Remaining games:

Clemson
@Georgia Tech
NC State
Maryland
@ND
Duke
Pitt
@Florida State
Wake
@NC State
@Va Tech
Notre Dame
@Duke

20 wins and they are a tourney lock, so 9 out of those 13 or win some games in the ACCT and they'll be ok. Plus, Duke is far from unbeatable this year, so as long as they are still top 25 there's potential for another "quality win".

We will probably have three guards drafted in the first round in three consecutive years while reaching the elite eight, final four and possibly better this season. I know it's Duke and UNC but c'mon!
and going back a bit further: if Kevin Pelton's assessment is correct and Ennis plays himself into the lottery, that will be 5 lottery picks in the last 6 drafts, 4 of them guards.

That's the easiest way to put it ...they just aren't a good team. They can't shoot. they don't defend. They don't play tough. I think think it's a case of having a bunch of elite athletes that are mediocre basketball players. I really don't see them turning it around.
Bilas had some cutting comments about UNC late in the game. First he said there was a difference in coming to play versus coming to fight, and UNC hasn't been coming to fight. Second he said that the players UNC used to get are now going to Kansas and Kentucky.

Coming from Bilas - ouch.

20 wins isn't what it used to be. Just ask our 2006-07 team that got bounced with a 21-8 record including a season ending win over then #10 Georgetown in the dome.

And a 10-6 record in the best conference in the country.

yeah, Bilas is the best at what he does in my opinion so if he says it i am going to believe it. I am sure UNC is losing many top line recruits to Kansa and Kentucky but they are still getting highly rated recruits compared to us and Arizona and any other school without a k. I think a lot of this is on Roy. If you looked at our game and the game last night, they ended with 4 timeouts left in each game. How can you not call a timeout to kill momentum and draw up a play. Just not good coaching.

Sure, but 20 wins with wins against 3 top 10 teams should be a lock for any team, regardless of conference.

just try and look at the bright side. the NIT will mean another puppet show..eeerrr i mean home game.

Although in fairness, ESPN has UNC as the #4 recruiting class for 2014. They have 3 signed recruits, #8, #13, and #15 on ESPN's list. All ahead of Chris McCullough (#16).

None of which helps them this year, of course.

I watched enough games of him not using TOs that I have to wonder whether he's concerned he has nothing of value to impart. Hard to imagine after coaching all these years - but other than that, why doesn't he use TOs?

We were 21-11 (11-7) and ended up losing to Iowa in the NIT quarterfinals last year. Granted, we didn't have the marquee wins UNC has this year and a bunch of bad losses at the beginning of the year when our point guard was hurt..

UNC needs to do a lot of winning very quickly or they're toast as far as the NCAAs are concerned.

And i think they have had similar classes in the past. Thats a hell of a recruiting class but at some point somebody has to put some X's and O's on a whiteboard and figure stuff out.

Not considered best conference in that season.
Doesn't matter. At the time I believe we were one of a few if not the only, to have over 20 wins and 10 conference wins (from a power conference ) and not make the tourney. That was a screw job of epic proportions. Edit: it might have been the only team from the BE to have 10 wins and over 20 wins overall, and not make it to the tourney.

With regards to your bolded fact... OOC matters. And 2007 is around the time that the committee started to say it would matter more, and they have continue to hold to that today.

Syracuse got what it deserved. We should have been in over Stanford. But Drexel should have been in over both teams.

While our BE record was a solid 11-7, only 3 of those wins were against tourney teams. That diminishes the merits of the 11-7 record. That being said, it would have been enough to get us in with a decent OOC. Problem is our OOC was terrible.

1) They did not have a quality win OOC, unless you stretch things to include 14 seed Penn.
2) They played 3 bubble/NIT level teams in OOC, and lost them all.
Lost at HOME to Wichita St (who missed the tourney)
Lost at HOME to Drexel (who missed the tourney)
Lost at MSG to Oklahoma St (who missed the tourney)

That is one massive hole they put themselves in before January.

#2 was the biggest factor in Syracuse not deserving an at-large. We can argue that Syracuse could have been team 64 or 65 instead of 66 or 67, but when a team is in the 64-67 range its not a massive screwjob.

Comparing our 10-6 record to UNC at 9-9 (if it could somehow reach that) in the ACC this year is not really relevant.
1) UNC has 3 huge wins OOC, while we had none. Those 3 UNC wins in total are going to be way better than the best 3 wins we had for all of 2007.
2) 68 teams - those 3 extra teams make it a little easier.
3) UNC will not make it to 9-9. Bunch of quitters.

[quote"itsbotime, post: 899094, member: 1242"]The UNC equivalent of a Bernie Fine joke. Nice.[/quote]

Yeah Its exactly like that... wait no its not at all.

It's a (insert georgetown player name) joke than just so happened to be relavent to unc at the moment.

Bernie is more misunderstood than jerry stackhouse was when he accidentally grabs someone by the throat.

The other teams are not as good as people think?

MSU, who some pollster says is better than SU, struggled with Indiana at home last night to win by 5, a team we handled by 17 earlier this season.Oh Lord
FU MSU, Random Pollster & The Mad Pacer Tom Crean.
