Georgia's 1980 national championship was still pretty clear in most people's memories, but those years were not even close to what Georgia is now. But it was still the thing to do on the weekend and what everyone talked about. It's just part of the culture down there, which may or may not be the best thing in all honesty. And Matt's right, being state schools makes a big difference. Most people grow up being fans of "State University."
