Look I can get the it takes 3 to 5 years to build a program up talk in some cases that's true hover if you find the right guy the results can be immediate.

Bowling Green record 1998 5-6
Bowling Green record 1999 5-6
Bowling Green record 2000 2-9
Bowling Green record 2001 8-3 -new coach named Urban Meyer

Utah reords 2000 4-7
Utah reords 2001 8-4
Utah record 2002 5-6
Utah record 2003 10-2 new coach named Urban meyer

Results are similar at Florida and Ohio state

Now is he a rarity? yes most likely
Does he win immediately? .yes he does
Did he leave places quickly to go to better places ? Yes he did

To the fans that say we want stability and don't want to hire someone who just use us as a stepping stone let me ask would you have taken say three years of around ten wins with an offensive mastermind in the last 15 years of futility?

The points being good coaches don't need 3 years or 5 years to make a team better and they don't need there own 4ecruiting classes and they don't need to be at Ohio state or Florida to make there team better. All 5hey need is to coach them up and go.

Now some good coaches leave those rebuild jobs and the next coach isn't as good and can't build off that success and the team falls flat but some build off that and just continue on.

We have had 15 years of mediocrity I suspect we are in for a few more on the current path, I'll take the chance of hiring one of these young hotshot to get 2-3 years of exciting winning football and if he uses that as a stepping stone to Alabama ,usc or Ohio state well let's hire the next young hot shot, I would like to see some excitement about ThE program.

The phrases "easier said than done" and "like trying to catch lighting in a bottle" come to mind.

So do "beating a dead horse" and "wait till next year."

I never said SU should stop trying to upgrade the program and be satisfied with the status quo. But finding a savior who will lead the program back to glory overnight is a longshot.

I think people confuse the 3-5 year "build a program" to mean that it takes 3-5 years to have success. It doesn't. It just means that things are optimized after 3-5 years.

Success can be immediate with the right coaching and the right personnel. Doesn't mean that success will be maximized from the jump, but there is no reason why a good system can't have immediate success even before all of the right parts are assembled via recruiting over time.

Just hire a top five coach...that's what I'd do!

It reminds me of that old Steve Martin skit about how to become a millioinaire and NEVER have to pay taxes.

Step one: get a million dollars...

Or how about "Things can't get any worse. "
(Corollary: "Things can only get better.")
