No he was out there, but his touches are limited because he is behind Erv. I saw Strickland out there with Erv and Jordan at one point.

to bad, i believe he needs to utilized more---somewhere---
Lol This is what is called a high quality problem! Prime example of how our talent is getting better.

My only guess is he has problems with pass protection.

It's a good problem to have. He is a play maker for sure, just stuck behind a better player right now. To Whitey's point pass protection seems to be a big point of struggle with Freshman RB in general.

there's not enough touches to go around when you only run 54 plays. the players we want to have the ball in their hands got the touches; Ishmael (career day 7 for 114), Fredericks (career day 12 carries 91 yards + 2 for 8) and Erv (9 touches 58 yards). Include Dungey's runs and they had 36 of the 45 'actual' touches.

Here are the rest

Morris – 2 touches (5 yards – though he had a hell of a 4 yard catch)

McFarlene – 1 touch (-2 yards)

Estime – 3 touches (22 yards)

Parris – 3 touches (19 yards)

We need to run more plays (but other teams have also been keeping the ball)

If he has problems in pass protection, put him in the slot and get the ball out faster.

Which they did with the him and Phillips Saturday.

who knows about shafer and lester but is it safe to say that this hybrid stuff isn't the way to go

i'm very frustrated hearing about strickland struggling in pass protection and phillips running bad routes - this was all foreseeable when we ask guys to be WR, RB, and FB

erv's TD numbers would beg to differ. also, hes a true soph. jury is still out at minimum, but Id tend to say it favors lester's offense and the hybrid.

you usually have some insightful points, even if I disagree, but youre off on this one.

The idea of the hybrid is to create a favorable match up. Pass protection and route running can take years to refine and be good at it.

these guys are all good WR. if there's not a good matchup on the outside, hand it to fredericks and watch him go
I agree, I really really like the way he runs. Sometimes offensive coordinators try to get to cute.

i was referring to some other thread where people were talking about erv's downfield routes. not turning around, etc

erv was made for screens. especially with lewis and ish out there blocking.

if they could block at all, dungey and fredericks running the zone read with a bubble option to phillips and estime and shots to ishmael downfield when safeties get sick of big chunks to everyone else

i've always thought phillips was a WR. he's a great athlete so he's good whatever you do with him but WR is where i want him

the ironic part is, dungey is the first qb we've had who is very precise on short throws. he prob throw a nice ball on the screens. that being said, im 95% ok with the offense as is, now that were targeting ish more. I continue to expect it to get better. we can add wrinkles as we get better and develop cohesion.

one criticism I have of erv is he doesn't seem to like to block downfield. id like to see more effort there.

I actually like a RB wheel route out of the backfield. Usually get coverage by a slow linebacker. Erv's problem was he wasn't looking for the ball. I'm not sure if it's on him or if there was a communication issue. Either way it was an awful play. The ball that hit him in the head, I'm wondering if he lost it in the lights but that pass was incredible

i believe it is pretty simple, get strickland the ball passing short and he makes things happen
I, too, would like to see more Strickland. Like PhatOrange mentioned above, if we sped up the offense and ran more plays, we could get all of these guys more touches. The problem is, it will also get Dungey hit more often, which concerns me greatly, because it seems to me that other teams are taking every opportunity to hit him in the head, legally or otherwise.

You don't have to worry about pass protection if you're lining up 4 wide.

You always have to worry about pass protection. But yeah, then it's on Dungey and not on Strickland.

running the risk of being simplistic, why not have plays where he only has to run, receive, run??? what is wrong with that?? the guy makes plays --use that.

I'm sure they do. It comes down to not be able to run 70 plus plays a game. Not enough snaps to go around it seems.

Agreed.
