Women's Soccer SU 0 vs UConn 6: Sun Aug 21, 1 PM

Our coach is 6-19-3 in three seasons... Yikes and we finished last year with a 11 game losing streak.

To be fair, she started with nothing. But we should be seeing some progress now.

It is a big year for the program.

My neighbor in Florida her daughter was offered a grad year scholarship to Cuse. She decided to go to school in England.

At least the Men's team looks solid

I've beat this drum before; say what you will about the Good Doctor, he took our Olympic sports to their highest point. Wildhack has, and continues to, show little care or thought for Olympic sports coaching hires. Well, maybe except for the Braille Institute obvious choices.

And we thought the football coach had a bad record.

Daryl made some good hires and some bad ones.

One key differentiator between most of his time at Syracuse and today is the conference the teams play in. The Big East was pretty good to good in most Olympic sports. The ACC is generally the best or the second best conference in the country in most Olympic sports. I mentioned above that the ACC has 6 teams in the women's soccer top 25 (and 3 of the top 4).

That makes it hard to win a lot of games.

Here is the history of how the women's soccer team has done. Gross hired Wheddon and he would probably have made SU a consistent winner if not for the move the ACC. That was the beginning of the end for him.

I saw some of one of the scrimmages last week. The team looks improved. But the competition is tough in the ACC. Hopefully some of the youngsters can step up and emerge.

Women's soccer coach did not impress me when she was hired. I don't think she had any East Coast ties(Texas A&M?), and quite frankly, didn't have charisma for the recruiting trail. I mean, unless she is some sort of master tactician, which I don't think she is, would rather have a Nick Monroe type that can reel in some talented recruits. Let's see how this Women's volleyball hire goes; played in Germany, and guy was just fired by Temple.
Anybody and their grandmother could have come up with the Gait, Jack, and Treanor hires. And, quite frankly, wouldn't have taken so long, either.

According to this June 2021 article, this is what we are spending. Some of that is our scholarships are more expensive than other schools, but seems like we are investing enough in the program to expect better results.

2019-20 spending (and national rank): $2.2 million (19th in the country)
2018-19 spending (and national rank) $2.1 million (19th in the country)
Who is No. 1? Texas A&M, $3.1 million
Where does SU rank in the ACC? 4th. Florida State leads at $2.8 million.

And we finished 72nd in the Director's Cup standings, right behind N.Arizona and Georgetown. Did we get our monies worth?
