Men's Soccer SU at Yale (1-0): Mon Sept 1, 4 PM

Yale has come out of the half better as they begin to attack. Has had some good opportunities to level the score.

Syracuse has not had a good chance for a good 30 minutes. Yale has been the more dangerous team in the second half. very similar to the Loyola matchup.

Just when I say this, Ming draws a penalty in the box.

It is saved after a rough take by Nutornutsi.

An important win and we have a happy 🚌 heading back to Syracuse. Yale made it very difficult to break them down but Landon Darko’s first college goal was the difference. Not sure if we have ever created 28 shots on the road… but one was enough with a big clean sheet! 🍊⚽🧡

It means packing the defensive side of the field with a bunch of players. Yale had all of their players packed into the defensive box.
Yale lined up in a 5-3-2 formation, based on what I saw. The goal is to keep SU from scoring by deploying five defenders and trying to catch them off guard on the counterattack. It does leave the wings somewhat vulnerable, which SU attempted to exploit much of the second half with Sachiel Ming. Yale's strategy was quite effective, as they managed some good shots on goal.

SU has high potential this year, with Carlos Zambrano seeming close to breaking through. Sachiel Ming is performing well, along with freshmen Quentin Christy and Landon Darko. Need to see more from Bright.

Defensively, we're solid. Chimere Omeze, Tim Brdaric, Gavin Wigg, Garrett Holman, and Tomas Hut have all played well, conceding only two goals in four games. Hopefully, the finishing issues can be resolved before conference play begins.

Agreed. Defense is not the worry again this year. What feels different this year compared to last is that the offense is creating chances. While many today were not on target, 28 shots are a lot.

While Acquah has not impressed me so far, I understand he does a solid job tracking back. Still, I would love to see Darko and Bright out there together, as both could cause headaches for a back line.

I thought Ivan had an okay debut in the midfield. Wish he were more aggressive on the dribble, as Yale was giving him plenty of daylight.

The following two non-conference teams will be undefeated when they play us, making for an intriguing matchup. The team is promising, and I'm glad they are looking solid even after the losses of Bell and Nugent.

Up the Orange!

Dominic Bell is expected to return next year, but things could have changed. The team could really use a healthy Giona Leibold, who has had a tough couple of years.

Swore I saw Bell join a USL 2 team. I don’t know the rules enough to know if he could return. Would love to see a healthy Leibold again

Does anyone know what happend to Nugent? Only freshman who signed but is not on the roster.
