Hey, Bear. Welcome. Baylor had a nice team last year. I noticed that Jones, Miller and (outside chance) Acey are NBA prospects. We've got 4 looking to get drafted: Melo, Dion Waiters, Kris Joseph and Scoop Jardine (outside chance). KJ and Scoop, in particular, are 4 year guys that gave a lot to the program. Exciting year to come with big time recruits (DC2, Grant), veteren guys (BT, CJ, JS), sophomores looking to explode (X-Mas and MCW) and even a quality redshirt who brings perimeter offense. We're preseason top 10-15, could be good, could be rebuilding. We'll know in a couple of months. As far as 1), the short answer is 'no'. That was the scandal that wasn't, coming unfortunately at a time when another, much larger and more serious scandal swept out Penn State's coach, AD and President. In this case, the 4 victims are down to 2, oddly related by marriage. There have been (and are likely to be) no charges, due to the age and uncorroborated nature of the allegations. The 'drug' issue was really an unfair attack that I'm predicting will go exactly nowhere. We reported "possible" violations, true. Any time that happens, there's a risk, but reporting doesn't mean we'll be found to have committed punishable infractions. The enterprise "journalists" from Yahoo that published the article did a good job of mudslinging, and a poor job of analyzing the policy and data. SU has a voluntary program with 3 violation classes. Despite the sensationalist tone of the article, a player can violate the policy and be 'counseled', re-enter and play. Secondary violators can be in vastly different situations. Therefore, the "multiple violation" cases trumpeted by the article could be something or nothing .. a player who violates in his freshman year could be reinstated after counseling. Then he might violate when he's a senior -- years later. In addition, under Crowthhamel, medical testing didn't go to JB, it went to Jake, so the allegation that JB covered up something or played 'druggies' is, at this point, totally unsupported by known facts. As to 2), we're in the ACC for better or worse. JB's time is limited, but many doubt this year or next. Thereafter, who knows. After this season, SU is off to the ACC, which many consider a BB conference. No question, it has neither the FB revenue nor the national (FB) cache' of the SEC, Big 10, Big 12, etc.. However, it has some FB, and lots of BB, programs, that are nationally prominent and lucrative. The recent contract, while not gaudy in its numbers, does have a revenue stream that's nothing to spit at. According to our AD, there are some nice 3d tier revenue provisions that could be lucrative for SU and other elite level BB programs (Duke, UNC). You might have heard that Mike Hopkins (former SU BB player, from CA) is the "coach in waiting". He's an excellent recruiter and assistant, who's been with the program ... geez 16 years +.
