this should be free registration, and i hope su negotiated a deal for a reduced rate for the participants at the hotel

These type of events are how they raise extra funds for the budget, or, more frequently it's used as extra cash for underpaid staff.

If you can't afford the $40 then don't go. It's ridiculously cheap. Maybe all of 10 participants will stay in a hotel, which they did setup with the Crowne.

$40 is ridiculously cheap. Down here, registration fees are easily 2-3 times that amount.

It has never been free registration, whether is was with Coach P, Robinson, Marrone or Shafer, due to NCAA rules, since if anything is provided whether it be a notebook or a meal a fee must be charged. Most years the meals provided are well worth the price of the clinic. For anyone who has been to coaching clinic $40 is extremely cheap. Most clinics you pay much more and then see film or for some old-school coaches overhead slides showing drills. This clinic will allow participants to see the drills being run through in person.

My last point is that $40 is cheaper than just about all the other college/university run coaching clinics.

Is this incentive to get coaches to bring their kids to the Spring Game?

It may be part of the reason, but Syracuse has run an annual clinic for as many years as I can remember and it doesn't always align with the spring game. It is a good way, especially for a new staff, to develop relationships with local coaches.

It's never been done the day before the Spring Game before. Typically, it would be followed by access to a closed door practice for the coaches. The only coach who I remember seeing bring his son was Kevin Johnson. Although, it can't hurt.

I guess I should have asked more clearly. I know previous staffs have had summer clinics, and I remember plenty of HS school coaches roaming the sidelines in the Marrone open practice days.

It seems like Babers likes to move faster than our previous regimes.

To be honest, I can't remember if Robinson and Marrone had coaching clinics their first springs on the hill. I am pretty sure Shafer did, but he was already established since he was an in-house promotion.

Year 1, Shafe didn't have the Clinic, but, he did introduce the Team Camp.

Your record for criticizing everything the school does continues. Quite a streak, man.

Bravo
jesture of good faith, public relations, sends the message that we want you and need you. etc etc.---by the way when you take the orange glasses off, drop the pom poms etc and look at the reality of our performance then we can talk. what i proposed was a welcoming of sorts to the coaches. not business as usual. i have high hopes for coyle--of which requires no explanation to you, not that it requires one.

I'm as hard on our past performance as anyone.

I think you're vastly overrating the issues with making it free - and the good will bought with it. The people responsible for that decision have roughly 1000% more info on it than you do.

The bottom line is, if anything, and I mean anything, whether it's a pen or a five course meal is provided by the University they are required to charge a fee. I don't know the full reasoning behind this, or the reasoning behind most NCAA rules, but I assume it has to do with some type of perceived recruiting advantages gained.

I could email Coach Babers right now and ask for teaching film, chances are he would be more than happy to send it to me. However, per NCAA rules I would either have to send them a blank DVD to be burned or pay for the DVD they are sending me. In the past they have only charged a buck or two for the DVD, but they had to charge for it.

I supposed things could have changed since this rule was explained to me by a college coach, but they way the NCAA works, I would be willing to bet the rules are more not less strict.

probably right. however your arrogant and insulting tones display a total lack of civility, that serve to thwart intelligent discussion. you seem to enjoy that in your know it all approach. as per all your posts, feel free to have the last empty word(s) on this

Sorry you feel that way. Have no need to have the the last word on anything. I call you out for being perhaps the most negative poster on the forum. It grinds on me, so that's why you might read "insulting tones" into what I say.

No worries though. Put me on ignore.

I'm curious to see how this staff approaches the 'camps'. Will it be all-inclusive, teams camps, prospect camps, will they host a 7 v 7 ? So far they seem to approach this side of the house the same as the big boys so I'm anticipating a prospect camp (invite only) and a 7 v 7 tourney trying to get the best teams up here.

Winning...the best jesture of good faith and public relations.
