I've been going back and forth about which conference better suits SU from a football standpoint. I started looking at the offensive stats that both conferences bring to the table from the current national rankings (some teams still have to play their 12th game). ACC Clemson 518 yds/game - #8 UNC 485 yds/game - #15 Florida St 477 yds/game - #19 GA Tech 458 yds/game - #28 Miami 440 yds/game - #37 NC St 420 yds/game - #50 Duke 396 yds/game - #66 UVA 396 yds/game - #67 VA Tech 391 yds/game - #72 BC 350 yds/game - #97 Wake 301 yds/game - #117 Maryland 284 yds/game - #120 Average 409 yds/game - #55 B1G Nebraska 460 yds/game - #26 Indiana 442 yds/game - #36 Ohio St 423 yds/game - #47 Penn St 417 yds/game - #54 Purdue 405 yds/game - #62 Northwestern 397 yds/game - #65 Michigan 385 yds/game - #80 Wisconsin 380 yds/game - #84 Michigan St 370 yds/game - #90 Minnesota 317 yds/game - #110 Iowa 310 yds/game - #114 Illinois 297 yds/game - #118 Average 383 yds/game - #83

After you add in the new realignments...
ACC Clemson 518 yds/game - #8 UNC 485 yds/game - #15 Florida St 477 yds/game - #19 Syracuse 473 yds/game - #22 GA Tech 458 yds/game - #28 Miami 440 yds/game - #37 LVille 431 yds/game - #44 NC St 420 yds/game - #50 Pitt 407 yds/game - #60 Duke 396 yds/game - #66 UVA 396 yds/game - #67 VA Tech 391 yds/game - #72 BC 350 yds/game - #97 Wake 301 yds/game - #117 Average 425 yds/game - #47 B1G Nebraska 460 yds/game - #26 Indiana 442 yds/game - #36 Ohio St 423 yds/game - #47 Penn St 417 yds/game - #54 Purdue 405 yds/game - #62 Northwestern 397 yds/game - #65 Michigan 385 yds/game - #80 Wisconsin 380 yds/game - #84 Michigan St 370 yds/game - #90 Rutgers 341 yds/game - #99 Minnesota 317 yds/game - #110 Iowa 310 yds/game - #114 Illinois 297 yds/game - #118 Maryland 284 yds/game - #120 Average 372 yds/game - #88 I think moving forward the ACC gives us the best fit from a football perspective, as well as an overall conference fit. More teams in the ACC have up-tempo offenses that focus more on offensive firepower than defensive prowess. Looking at the averages after the realignment, the ACC teams currently average around 425 yds/game, with 8 of 14 teams in the top 50. The new B1G teams currently average roughly 372 yds/game, with 3 of 14 teams in the top 50. Teams in the B1G focus more on the running game and have better defenses as well. With HCDM at the helm, and with the NO Saints-style offense coming to form, the ACC gives us a better stage to play with other run-and-gun teams. It will hopefully allow us to attract offensive studs who can fit our system. Generally, fans don't mind a good offensive shootout either. You can have Rutgers and Maryland, who clearly have alot of nothing going on offense. Maryland being replaced with LVille is an upgrade across the board athletically. Can't wait to see how Rutgers fares against some of the big D's they will face in the B1G. They have trouble moving the ball playing no one OOC and then playing the BE teams. We held them to 237 yards. Can't imagine what Mich St, Wiscy or Michigan would do to them. Have fun cleaning the floors with them Sparty. When you start to add in the other elements that make the ACC a better destination than the B1G, you can add the ridiculous basketball conference that we will be witnessing after football season. I thought the BE last year couldn't get any harder. I was wrong. Duke, UNC, Cuse, Pitt, LVille, NC St, GA Tech, FSU and Wake just to name a few. Love it. Just need to work on getting the conference championship in MSG. You also add the fact that the school profiles fit Syracuse better as well. ACC has several private schools. The rivalries are already natural. Yes, it would be nice to play Penn St every year, but I am completely fine playing Pitt, LVille, Clemson, FSU, NC St, BC and Wake every year. SU has alum up and down the Atlantic Coast, not all over the midwest. We will be able to have some presence in some of the stadiums like BC, NC St & FSU, much more than we would playing in Indiana. From a recruiting perspective, we are focusing more on the east coast. NYC, NJ, PA, GA, FL, MD/VA/DC. This continues to give recruits and their families a chance to see Syracuse in person. Win-win if you ask me. I really hope the ACC holds together because I think this is going to be really fun starting next year. War Damn Otto!
