Guys, we are 30% worse than the second crappiest team in red zone passer rating

We have a 59 rating in the red zone.

MY GOD

You're right near the end zone, you should have a good rating there from TDs. The average rating in the red zone is 160!

SU is 9 for 36 in the red zone

25% COMPLETION PERCENTAGE

it'll all be fine when lester can run his own unidentifiable offense, it'll be great

Okay. So we suck. The stats support it. What's your point? Are saying that Lester is going to be a quantifiable failure because he was running an ill-fitting offense that was put in by a different coordinator who had no idea how to run said offense, especially because we don't have the type of players that fit the scheme?

Lester is already a failure. He was the QB coach in that ill fitting offense for a year and a half! Everyone acts like this guy just came in off the street. "How can we expect him to run the offense?!? It's gibberish to him!"

New Mexico was last in 2011. they kept everyone because they're new mexico.

Auburn was last in 2012. They fired everyone.

UTEP in 2011 - unloaded the offensive coordinator

Texas in 2010 - unloaded offensive coordinator

it's always surprising to be in dead last by a lot in any category

That's a shocker. I figured we would be in the top 10.

Did you see how bad our system was the last two years? The coordinator who installed that offense is gone.

What was Lester supposed to do? Scrap the entire offense mid-season? Coaches have, what, twenty hours a week with the team. The offensive staff would have to install a whole new playbook, teach terminology, practice routes, and get the system moving in the right direction in a total of about 140 hours. Then subtract from that game prep, because goodness, there were seven of those to get ready for during the season.

I know you fancy yourself a big picture guy because of the way you misinterpret stats and care about where things rank. You know what? It doesn't matter.

We're going to have a fully new system next year that appears to emphasize what this team has usually been good at- running the ball. It may work, it may not. But we can all be certain that, no matter how successful, you will complain about it. Because that's just what you do.

195 ypg on the ground with mcf'it

82 with lester

bill cubit's offense sucks at running the ball. if lester didn't learn his offense from cubit, who did he learn it from?

lester's not the only coach to want to run the ball. some of them have actually been top 50 in fbs or fcs

Good try, Millhouse. Long just isn't a very good QB. It's not Lester's fault.

austin wilson's negative 50 qb rating in the red zone really hurts them.

kimble has a 0 rating in the red zone

long has a 58 rating

Hunt 74

lester and shafer chose to put wilson in the game in the red zone mid drive to throw fades.

these qbs are really bad. who is coaching them? oh wait

There is worse talent at the QB position in CFB with better offensive stats than us. It's crazy how every year (minus a couple seasons) since Grob we blame the QB position or the OL for all of our deficiencies. We've played teams starting their 2nd string QB who looks like a Heisman candidate. We don't have amazing QB talent but we have enough talent to not be drowning in the bottom of the barrel.

You're arguing with a straw man. No one thinks this year was good on offense or that we were good in the red zone.

Signs point to Lester not being great - but we'll have next season to see what shakes out. All the stats and uncaptilized rants in the world are not getting us a new OC in the offseason.

It is disturbing that we're bucking the trend of firing the OC that led us to be this bad. McDonald and Lester are both objectively awful at their jobs. By some measures, they are collectively the literal worst at their jobs in the country. Yet, we get one more year of Lester. Everything about this team is so depressing. I really wish I was capable of not caring because my falls would be better enjoyed by watching real football programs play every weekend. Instead we get this crap in perpetuity.

three ways to be good in the red zone..

one be really good at passing in tight spaces. that can be the qb or a dominant WR/TE. we have none of those. not sure we even have avg talent at any of those spots. you put O'learhy on this team and i think we score 4-5 tds on that alone.

two have a dominant oline that can maul people, run it in or create play action.

three out scheme people. helps if the qb can make a competent throw or the WR dont drop td passes.

One thing I dont get is that West does one thing well and thats win off the line yet we never used it near the red zone. did teams force us to run fades or did we settle for them?

The guy blamed long. Hunts numbers were horrible and the other two, c'mon

Fair enough.

Scott Shafer is a good man. Just like Greg Robinsom was a good man.

Yep. And luckily that's about the only way they are similar.
