SU vs Cal (90-87 / 3OT): Thurs Jan 15, 6 PM

OK, missed everything except 3rd OT. Is the injury to Phelia serious and what was the injury?

I really like Coach Jack but there was some questionable coaching at the end.
Did not understand why DD was inbounding to Uche. DD was best free throw shooter. Knew cal was going to foul why not have someone else in bound and have better free throw shooter in the game.
Did not understand not playing more o and d substitutions in over time with certain players in made baskets.
Why allow cal to shot a 3 with limited time on the clock to tie the game. I remember JB would burn a little click foul and play the percentages that time would run out after the free throws and change of possession.
To many forced shots at the end and not running some set plays out of timeouts.

Watched video of the Darius inbounds play this morning. Don’t you have to have both feet established in bounds before touching the ball? Not complaining, but…..

Yeah the fact that the team she kept on the court that was very exhausted and it definitely showed and did not sub with a couple of fresh players was freaking me out.
But, it ended up a win.
Go FLJ!

  • Re-establishing Inbounds: If a player goes out of bounds, they only need one foot to touch the court inbounds (with nothing touching out of bounds) to regain their inbounds status before touching the ball.

Thanks for that. Is that specific to women’s basketball or men’s too? I know it used to be consistent in men’s basketball with the backcourt violation rule where a player had to have both feet established in the front court before stepping back for it to be a violation.

Thank you. I was wondering about that myself.

it varies for some plays.

Syracuse showed great resiliency last night. Giving up a 20 point lead and going into overtime...some teams just give up. All the momentum was with CAL. I kept waiting for the CUSE to just stop fighting and cave....but they never Did! This kind of win will serve them well come tournament time. I like the fact that Coach jack is trying to develop her bench. There is room for another outside shooter, especially a 3 point shooter to emerge and get playing time. LIv is getting more time, but she has to become more of an offensive threat to really help this team. She was an excellent 3 point shooter in high school...she just has to start hitting some and gaining confidence. Almon and Thompson have been great on the boards, but they too need to improve their offense, especially layups for Almon. Overall, I love the way this team plays!!

That win…

demonstrated our toughness and also the work we need to do to learn to close out wins in regulation time…

Not sure she had both feet in bounds when she caught the ball.
Only one foot is necessary.

“In college basketball, if you bounce the ball off a defender during an inbounds play,
you do not need both feet established inbounds; you just need to step inbounds before touching the ball, making it a legal play to gain possession and dribble or pass, as it's treated as a deflection. The inbounder can even toss it off the defender and then pick up the ball inbounds to score, as long as they step in bounds first. “

We have some struggles, and blemishes but man is this team fun to watch. They play with so much grit and heart!
