In shorter threads it probably does not matter, but sometimes in longer threads that you check multiple times it can be difficult to tell when in the discussion the quoted post occurred. In the rumor posts like the Melo one where rumors are advanced and debunked throughout the thread I would find it helpful to know whether what is being quoted was mentioned early on in the thread or more recently.
