Anthony Barber (AAU Team: Boo Williams)

Anthony Barber rattled off the following list: Alabama, Kansas, Virginia Tech, Virginia, NC State, UCLA, Memphis, Syracuse and Connecticut. The two that stand out currently are Kansas and Alabama.

Barber was right there with EC Matthews for favorite player of the night. Cat-quick off the dribble, Barber was also knocking down perimeter shots at a solid clip to help lead Boo Williams past the Tennessee Travelers.

- Beejay Anya (AAU Team: Team Takeover)

Beejay Anya is a grown man. No other way to put it than that, and his ability to take control in the paint can be a serious difference-maker. If Anya gets the ball in front of the basket more times than not he’s finishing with a dunk, and he also showed good footwork defensively with hard hedges and rebounding outside of his general area

SU Softball

For those of you who have been following the team here are a couple of things to chew on. USF, a team SU beat 2 of 3 times this year and who Jen Caira no hit in the final home game of the season, is headed for the NCCA World Series this week in Oklahoma City. Life is all about catching breaks and the Bulls caught a few to help make this dream come possible. Both SU & USF were given at large berths. If you examine things SU should not have been put in the Tempe region to face #2 Arizona State. USF had the good fortune to be cast in Florida's bracket, I think Florida was #7 seed. On merit SU should have had the easier draw. USF lost 3 of their last 4 and got hammered by Louisville 4-1 & 9-0 late in the season. USF like SU lost in the first round of the Big East Tournament by 1 run. SU finished the season 6-2.

If you have been following the regional's you know that three of Florida's top players were thrown off the team on the eve of the tournament sending the team into turmoil. This is a story that was put out by ESPN, Discipline protects UF's integrity.

"Here's what happened. Racist and homophobic tweets by and between these three players (ss, 3b, lf), directed to and about other teammates. When challenged about these tweets by a current player, an actual fistfight broke out. Not minor either, as the police had to be involved. The rest of the team banded together, and told Walton that they were no longer willing to play with these three. So, Walton didn’t have much of a choice. Rumor is that this had been building, throughout the year. We still don’t know all of the details, but when the entire rest of team tells the coach on the day before the regional playoffs, that they will not play with these three, it had to be pretty bad. No one knows better, then the other players what really happened. There has to be something to it, otherwise the other players wouldn’t have bailed on these three."

In the regionals in Tallahassee, USF beat UCF 1-0, Florida Gulf Coast 8-3, then Florida, who came out of the losers bracket 1-0 to go to the Super Regionals. There, at home, they faced Hofstra who had upset UCLA on their home turf. Hofstra had the top pitcher in America who had won 31 games in a row, one off the all time record for most consecutive wins.

USF dropped the first game Friday night in 11 innings 2-1. They then came back on Saturday to beat the Pride 2-1 in 9 innings and 2-1 in the rubber match. This punched the Bulls ticket to Oklahoma City for the eight team double elimination World Series.

Barber looks like Paul Harris.
