Detroit May Go Broke in Days

My reply is off topic but not much more so than the article on Detroit. Bing is in a dilemma not of his own making.

Bankruptcy is the inevitable result of governance by Dem./lib/socialist big hearted tax and spenders. Bing is trying to clean up the mess, but he can't control the unions. Unions are a labor monopoly with powers of thugery that are beyond the powers of any monopolistic corporation. Even a monopolist corporation has to satisfy the consumer. A union only has to satisfy its members. Whether it is Greece, Spain, CA or Detroit, the road to poverty is paved by well intentioned fools.

Prosperity requires the ability to make a profit. Only profit driven capitalism allows the pie to grow. A rising tide floats all boats but socialism simply rearranges the chairs on the Titanic.

The libs are thinking that Detroit's problem is that the auto industry left. They see no relationship to unions. They think that the problem is those greedy capitalists, domestic and foreign, that choose low wage southern States. Or maybe they think that the problem is that unpatriotic car buyers are price conscious. Why not mandate a $100/hr min wage, ban all imports with high import tariffs and live happily ever after? S Korea must be dumping cars, shame on Americans from taking advantage.

My rule of thumb is that when it comes to any such conflict, go with the consumer. We are all consumers.

I am seeking high value information. Please enlighten me by providing one example of socialist success. Just one is all I ask. Are you aware that even the gvt owned enterprises in China are all bankrupt, surviving on loans that can never be repaid?

The reason why there are no examples, not one, is that the only feedback to guide efficient allocation of investment is through free markets. How would any politician, spending OPM (other peoples money) with no concern for profit, know the difference between Solindra and First Solar? Is utopian vision high value information or is market feedback high value information?

The reason for our emotion is that libs have bankrupted our country with statist command economy policies. Despite Obama's mindless socialist ramblings, freedom is equal opportunity, just as our Founding Father's saied. Freedom is not freedom from want ie. guaranteed outcome. Obama has said that he laments that our Founding Fathers did not define freedom as freedom from want. I surmise that he is unaware that both the Soviet and Nazi constitutions defined freedom as freedom from want, as did Roosevelt's proposed New Constitution. Our heritage is Locke/Burke/Jefferson/Madison/Washington; not Marx. The liberal definition of freedom is the conservative's definition of dependency/serfdom. The two concepts are incompatible. I hope this helps explain why conservatives are upset. A safety net is one thing but unsustainable entitlements are quite another.
