My wife and I got to Syracuse about 8:30 last nigh. We are staying at the Crowne Plaza for the first time. It's a a nice place other an being chocked full of UNC fans talking nonsense about how we haven't beaten anyone...how Cooney was gonna choke and how Fair is mediocre...We just sat there and said, have fun at the Dome...They were also amazed that beer was served at the dome...

Is it time for breakfast say at Cosmo's yet??????? LGO!!!

I mentioned in a post the other day that I thought there would be some UNC fans there. However it is still going to be a huge Orange crowd. We need to make sure it is a loud Orange crowd.

Haven't heard much in general about this game. I didn't listen to sports radio here as much this week but I get the feeling that most UNC fans have no idea what to expect from their team today!

I hope we make this a statement game and dominate them from tip off. I want ACC opponents to know we are the team that they need to worry about. I want everyone's best shot.

I was walking down Columbus Avenue a couple of years ago. I happened to walk past a couple at the precise second the baby blue clad woman had spotted someone wearing a Syracuse National Champions t shirt. She turned to the man and asked "When was the last tahm that Sayeracuse won the National Championship?"

Being a civic minded New Yorker (ok perhaps a contradiction in terms) I ask: "Basketball or Lacrosse?" She gave me a look that could only be described ans incredulous and said "Basketball of coahs." After doing my civic duty (after all Syracuse IS New York's college team) and answering 2003, she informed me that "we" meaning UNC had won it in 2009.

I thanked her for the information but reminded her that I hadn't asked. Then added: "If I recall correctly Syracuse kicked the snot (it was really another four letter s word, but this is a family environment) out of North Carolina in the Garden last year." The man, literally laughed out loud at my retort while the lady gave that "well I declare, how dauh you" look of surprise. As I passed them and went on my way I could still hear the man laughing.

Thanks to Wes, Andy, KJ, Brandon, Arinze, Scoop, Ricky and Coach Boeheim for making that exchange possible

I actually respect fans that come to the dome and cheer on their team. No really.
But, the second they start talking smack, the gloves are off- up 18 and telling everyone around you that SU sucks? Be prepared for some comments when we come back, take the lead, as as you leave with the loss.

North Carolina and their Arrogant Fans!
During the 7 years I lived in Charlotte, UNC went through the dreadful Mat Daugherty era. One year they went 8-20 or something like that. Carolina nation went silent, didn't hear to many call into the local sports talk radio shows, see too many out wearing gear at sports bars, they just melted into the woodwork. I thought that if such a thing happened in Syracuse people wood be out in force demanding change. Carolina fans were / are so spoiled that they will not even associate themselves with the team when they are not winning. Saw a similar nonchalance the year I lived in Dallas. The team wasn't out and out bad but merely mediocre. Most folks I worked with did not even bring up the team in conversation during the season win or lose.

Should have asked them if today will count.

As a side note, at the MSG game in 09, most of the UNC fans I encountered were actually pretty cool. I remember running into some fans after the game who were very impressed with that SU team. I also sat next to a Duke fan that night who had come out solely to root against Carolina. I told him just for that night, we could have an unholy alliance.

Surrounded by UNC fans? Have you considered bear mace?
Or may I suggest forgetting the bear part, and opting for a simple mace:

That was a great game to watch and I was surrounded by UNC fans. Most were nice, but one guy behind me was upset that I kept standing up and cheering when we want on that crazy run. I reminded him that we were at a basketball game, not the opera. He stopped commenting.

What fan would travel 700 miles to say "I think we will give you a good game but you guys will win". The ones that travel are most likely the biggest FANatics.

No excuse. When we travel, we aren't douchebags. Well, most of the time. ;)

Seriously, though. The Louisville fans weren't douchebags in Atlanta. They had no problem respecting Cuse. It was the arrogant Michigan fans that were the annoying "We're the greatest, you guys suck" crowd.

As successful as UNC has been over the years, you would think their most traveled fans are past that. And I'm willing to bet that this isn't the first time in Syracuse for many of them. Most probably came here for the NCAA games too.

Stay classy, UNC fan. Don't be THAT GUY or THAT GAL. And don't be Michigan fan. We'll invite you to a tailgate and be friendly with you. We may even have a snowball fight with you. That is Northern Hospitality. :)
