Here's a thought on why our supposed offensive rebounding problem isn't what it seems:

Most all of KSU's shots were contested. I only remember a couple of times when a State player got totally free on the wing for an open shot. So what if their guys got two and three offensive rebounds when each one led to yet another contested shot and the ball didn't go in? So what if, say, their fourth shot did go in? All that means is that they shot 25% and only scored two points but racked up three rebounds in doing so. Great for the stat sheet, but little impact on the game. How much did that cost the Orange when we'd make that back with one steal or charge or block? Bottom line: Rebounding disparity is (dare I use that word?) OVERRATED!-VBOF

I could deal with our rebounding problems better if you didn't catch glimpses of people not trying. I can live with us not rebounding well, I can't stand the lack of effort at times. Those rebounds matter more and more as we move along.

Those missed shots that come from the offensive rebounds won't be missed as much as we see better teams. Some of the shots we contest, we do so after we have helped when someone gets beat and leads to people being out of position for rebounds. Against teams with legit inside scorers that could hurt us. I think the offensive rebound numbers were inflated by rebounding missed shots within the same possession, but couldn't the same be said for our fg% defense? If we make a team miss two shots within a possession but they get two offensive rebounds and make the third shot they've still scored on that one possession even though they shot 33%.

Prime example is the second half when Joseph, Southerland, and Christmas all attacked the glass and gave effort on nearly every possession. Syracuse won the rebounding battle in the second half. The ability is there to not make the differential so one sided.
