Half way through the 2nd quarter on Friday night, when the score was 17-7, Barbara Boeheim and I were offered sideline passes. We took them and walked down to the closest goal line. The first play we saw was the Szmyt FG that made it 20-7. Then, in rapid succession, came two touchdowns and another FG, making the score 37-7. All 20 points were scored directly in front of us -- and all occurred within 6.5 minutes!

At a brunch on Saturday, we mentioned that maybe we should get sideline passes for the Notre Dame game. No one said "no," but all pointed out it is an ND home game, meaning the Irish control the field passes.

Someone please explain to me why ND gets to designate Metlife Stadium as it's "home", and control access to it. Ridiculous. Their bowl council position, their private TV contract, their delusional fanbase, the whole entitlement mentality, is now an anachronism. Time to roll up their perks and tilt the field - and the field passes - back to level.

It's because they moved their home game in South Bend, to Metlife.

You're begging the question. Why couldn't we say the same thing. Syracuse hereby "designates" YS as a home game for our matchup with ND. It's not a conference game so why not? We have some rights because they need our agreement to play them.

There's probably a more nuanced (contractual) explanation - having to do with ND inking an agreement with the yankees to play one game per year there. But anytime I see this stuff - mysterious perks for ND - I am instantly suspicious.

The game was scheduled for Notre Dame's home game. They entered into an agreement with Yankees to move their home game from South Bend to Yankee Stadium so of course they would maintain the same perks as having the game in South Bend. It's not a neutral scheduled game. Not much SU can do about it.

actually ND had a contract for a home game, they couldnt just move it without us agreeing. its a better deal for the team. not so much for those that wanted to see a game in ND

We have a home game against Notre Dame in 2022. I will lose my friggin’ mind if Syracuse moves that game away from the Carrier Dome. I very much hope the strategy of moving premier nonconference games to NYC is a thing of the past.

I don't see a scenario where Dino allows that to happen, and I can't imagine Wildhack makes any moves like that without talking with Dino ahead of time.

I'll sneak you two onto the field Saturday. Just let me know when you're ready.

Many agree with you, but there are two distinct issues - 1) whether we should stray from the Dome for 'home' games; and 2) does a team get "home" status at a 3d party venue by contracting with the venue, or with the opponent that it plays there (probably both)? Either way, ND's a national program and if we don't consent to be the away team, they could just find another opponent. We may not be willing to do that, because it's to our advantage to play them, especially in a media market smack in the intersection of 3 of our recruiting areas (NJ, PA, CT).

Notre Dame is obligated to play ACC teams as part of their contract with the league. By that contractual agreement, 2022 is a home game vs ND for Syracuse. Notre Dame could refuse to play Syracuse at Yankee Stadium (or some other venue...they can’t refuse to play Syracuse as the visiting team.

That is why the game not being at the Carrier Dome would be infuriating - because it would be 100% Syracuse’s decision to move a game which otherwise Notre Dame is obligated to play at the Carrier Dome.

Edit: Notre Dame is the home team for the game vs Syracuse this year, by that same contract. Notre Dame opted to move the game to Yankee Stadium.

What? This was NDs home game and they agreed to move it to Yankee stadium as part of their shamrock series. thus , as the home team they get 80%+ of the ticket allotment.

It’s not going to happen if Dino is still here.
He hated the MetLife home game in 2016 and spoke out about it.
We were desperate for cash a decade ago but still it was dumb to keep the series but Gross signed that stupid contract with MetLife that both sides pulled out of a few years ago.

I think you really have a big misunderstanding about this game.

Re-read my original post (#7), which says, "someone explain to me ...". I don't accept things at face value, especially where ND is involved. If my questions bother you skip over them.
Edit: However, one nice thing about the board is that if you're not quite straight on the facts, you'll get called out in a hurry. ;)

because its literally their home game that they decided to move to Yankee stadium earlier this year.
