I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving. As always, it’s been an honor to keep these threads going for SWC — his passion, consistency, and love for Syracuse football live on through all of us who continue this tradition. One more time this season… here’s the honest look at how things could go wrong.
With 23 turnovers, the Orange are the worst in the Power 4 at protecting the football. In a matchup between struggling teams, giveaways are often the difference — and SU has been giving opponents free possessions all season.
2. The Passing Game Has Been Among the Worst in the ACC
The quarterback carousel and inconsistency at wide receiver have made this passing attack unreliable. When SU falls behind the sticks or needs to throw on clear passing downs, drives end quickly and BC can load the box with no fear.
3. SU’s Defense Has Struggled All Year
The defense ranks near the bottom of the Power 4 in yards per play and yards allowed. While the young stars are exciting, the unit has been gashed repeatedly and has struggled to get off the field. BC’s offense , even inconsistent, will find opportunities.
4. BC’s QB Dylan Lonergan Has Quietly Been Solid
Lonergan has thrown for 2,017 yards, 12 TD, 5 INT with a 66.7% completion rate. Against a defense that has communication issues and gives up first downs in bunches, he’s capable of stacking long, time-consuming drives.
5. First-Down Defense Remains a Major Issue
Syracuse is among the worst in the country at getting off the field. Opponents consistently pick up first downs on early downs, turning every drive into a grind for this already exhausted defensive unit.
6. Boston College Is Also Turnover-Prone But They Capitalize Better
BC has the 3rd most turnovers in the Power 4, but the difference is they’ve scored off takeaways, while Syracuse has struggled to turn turnovers into points. If both teams make mistakes, SU may be the one that pays more.
7. The Offensive Line Is Still a Question Mark
Whether it’s opening running lanes or protecting the QB, the line has been inconsistent. If they can’t establish physicality early, drives will stall and BC will control the tempo.
8. Emotional Games Can Go Both Ways
Senior Day can provide a spark… but it can also create tightness, nerves, and early mistakes. If SU presses too hard trying to “win for the seniors,” it could lead to self-inflicted wounds, something this team cannot afford.
