Look, I know this quote has been interspersed through a number of threads so it shouldn't be necessary to post it by itself. But we continue to hear suggestions and comments about the next team to be added to the ACC after ND.

From Today's Press Conference:

“There is no need to add a 16th team to the league and there’s no intention of doing so,” Swofford said. “In fact, from a practical standpoint, it is illogical.”

Of course, the conspiracy theorists on this and other forums will say, He's lying".

Swofford regardless of what some Florida St board people think is cool as ice. He tells you one thing as he is turning out the lights on you, so naturally he says we aren't adding a 16th team today. But when he's ready to make his next move , it will be done before its announced.

Swofford also said they were happy with 14 teams after SU and Pitt joined.

Falling on deaf ears. If it's not 16, then people won't stop until it gets there.

Not to steal the current political buzzword, but the arithmetic doesn't work. Assuming the goal is for the schools to maximize their conference revenue intake.

This means the B10 doesn't have to hold a spot open. Good news for Rutgers!

Yea, its already been posted.

UConn will be 16. Baby steps. Everytime they expand, there was no plan to expand. UConn will be next even if they say they are done (again). May not be for a year or two, but it will happen. So will ND as a full member.

Is the 4 x 16 model still in play? I guess the ACC would have to be one of the 4 now. :)

I see 16/18 (ND and Nova Partial and UL/UConn Fulltime)

or 16 Fulltime after the NBC contract expires...lets see how ND plays out NBC.

Another off the wall idea is the ACC grabs PSU in about a year...short term hit for long term gain.

I get what you're saying (and winking). But I think with this move, we are heading to a 5x16. And we are definitely one of the 5. :D

Mark, what value does Nova have? They're average in basketball and don't do anything else. Their attendance is piss poor. No value to bring in another partial member.

They bring the ACC into Philly...in a BE sorta way. Whenever Cuse plays at Nova the crowd always looks great. :p Nova could be coaxed to upgrading FB if ND ever decides to join. Not sure 18 FB teams is good though but I'm sure it could be worked out.

Nova is a VG academic school which the ACC values and a bridge between the South and North.

I still think the best Course of Action is to figure out if ND will join full time first. This morning I said go to 16/18...now I don't think so...

don't discount texas also. rumors of oklahoma to the big 10 just might accelerate the process. plus wasn't there some converations between texas and the acc.

and there was a quote that N.D. might still honor a pending series with Texas.

if N.D. gets to keep it's NBC contract, then Texas would be allowed to keep it's network. Swofford is a sneaky snake

I REALLY don't want to play in the same football conference as 'Nova. Trade their program with someone eho fields an actual D-IA program, and I'll take it, but 'Nova football will never be ready to play with the big boys.

BC will block UCONN, UCONN bball could well be over, I doubt either SU or Pitt wants UCONN (the NE can only hold so many football programs at once), and there is no way that ND wants UCONN (adding UCONN would mean losing another traditional rivalry)

Also, there's no way FSU, Miami, Clemson, VPI, or GT wants UCONN, bc UCONN isn't good enough at football.

Why would PSU leave the B1G?

Don't get me wrong, i like the creative thinking. I just don't see the motivation on their part.

Don't see this ever happening and SU should never be in the same conference as Texas, BUT I would pay a large amount of money to be in the room when the Texas to the ACC news is given to Oliver Luck.

We got out of the program-building business the day the ACC called. Hopefully, the ACC can help build back our program a bit.

Swofford also said they were happy with 14 teams after SU and Pitt joined.

The unspoken second part of that was always, "unless we can cut a deal with ND.".

I don't look for much movement for the ACC anytime soon, Bc, Pitt, Syracuse all have interest in keeping Rutgers and UCONN out and the big football schools won't really want to add them either, IMO. This gibves these 3 schools to build their football programs because it creates a big separation amongst the other 2.

Schiano knew what he was doing for sure. I Give the guy credit

one certainty is a remedial school like lville will NEVER get in the ACC.

another certainty now is that the ACC really DOESNT need to go to 16, because the math doesnt work until ND is FULL (queue townie) with football.

but maybe they could for hoop.

they would be better served right now going to 16 with St John's. BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE...the Garden is back.

gtown is useless, the ACC is already in the DC/Maryland market.

nova is useless because well NYC>>>>>>>>>philly.

Oh Lord

The day Notre Dame joins as a full members, UConn gets a call...unless Louisville decides to slash their acceptance rates in half starting tomorrow.
