Sy, Joe, Buddy, Jimmy, Edwards

Is this our best lineup?

I am really really tempted to slide Frank at the 4 for Jimmy but we can’t sacrifice the passing and shooting. Jimmy can’t defend or rebound but he’s our best passer not named Joe.
Yeah. Would like to see something like that.

And even with the Jimmy/Frank question….maybe go with what’s working better on a given day?

We don’t have the horses to settle with a starting 5 and play them all 30+. A lot of these guys are too one dimensional for that, IMO.

Huh?? Jimmy is a good passer?

I’m…. Not really seeing that on the regular.

Most of the time he gets the ball, he’s ISO Jimmay and a shot is absolutely going up, ill advised or not.

Our best starting lineup is exactly what it is. Minutes need to be adjusted. But if our weakness is rebounding it’s not very smart removing your leading rebounder.

Cole’s fighting hard but being our leading rebounder is being our tallest midget. That stat line is replaceable when you account for how much better our defense operates with Sy in, and how less one dimensional the offense becomes. Under normal circumstances Cole would be seeing his PT significantly cut right now.

He’s a good passer when he cares to pass. He gets carried away and is allowed to play his own version of hero selfish ball. He’s capable of great passing though

JB's rotations have been awful all year. I'd like to see something like symir, buddy, benny, frank, and jesse tried from time to time.

We might suffer a bit offensively but that's solely on JB and his refusal to draw up an offense for the last 5 or so years. Definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.

As flawed as this team is, give it to a coach who today is at the top of his game TODAY and I think we are at least 7-3, with a shot at being 8-2. VCU, Colgate, and today are inexcusable loses.

Just splt jimmy and Frank at the 4.

Frank would be our leading rebounder if he played over 35 minutes a game like Cole does. Cole just leads by default.

Cole is averaging 1 rpg less than Q did last year in the same amount of mpg.

So is Q's including ACC play, as in the whole season?

Yes. But on the flip, we didn’t play our first 10 games last year against the same programs we have this year. But that’s not even the point. Cole isn’t the rebounder Q was but he’s not anything to knock and say he leads by default.

"Leading" rebounder is the right way to describe it.

I don't see a good rebounder in Swider. Or a player that rebounds so well that his rebounding makes it impossible to take him off the floor.

sy needs to play alot more. i dont care that he cant shoot, at least hes a true pg and can play defense.
Him not being a shooter doesn't seem to gum up the offense because he moves the ball so quickly.

Feels like every game he takes a pass spotted up for a shot and whips it right over to a better shooter to take the J.

On the bright side.. if Joe spends a majority of his minutes playing next to Symir/Quadir next season it’s going to be a ton of fun.

He’s getting better every week this season and that’s without playing in a situation that ideally fits his skillset.

I'm so confused by the Frank at the 4 comments. I know he's a good athlete, which is a plus all around, but what about Frank's defense gives anyone the hint he'd be serviceable at the forward position? Do we have any idea if he's EVER practiced this role in the year and a half he's been here? He still seems pretty spastic at times playing the 5 role that he's been in for his time on the Hill. I know we need the rebounding, but what makes you think he'd be able to contest the wing 3s that Buddy won't and then get back to rebound in the paint? (Yeah, that was a cheap shot at Buddy, but he earned it)

Solely a hope and a prayer because he’s bigger and a better athlete than the starting forwards - both of whom absolutely suck on defense anyway - and don’t have the tools to do much about it.

Can he be worse? Maybe….but I don’t really see how. We’re already like the worst defensive team in the history of western civilization.

I’d be more concerned with offense. The 4 does have to handle the ball a little, pass and even shoot some. We aren’t going to use 2 low post guys.

Agreed - that would be my concern. But maybe with 3 guards - maybe we could do the Jackson/Onuaku thing at the 4/5….though granted they didn’t seem to play a ton of minutes together even though they started together.

I’d say 3 guards and Jimmy/Jesse could be really good offensively but we would never get a rebound.

3 guards and Cole/Jesse I guess?

The starting 5 combo just plays too many flat minutes together.

Big picture we just need to recruit better and more complete players. We just seem to have huge holes at something no matter who is on the court.

Gotta add….Anselem might be one of the better players on our team next year. If he’s going to strictly backup a senior Edwards, then he’s not going to play all that much which is kindve a waste. Would be nice if we could play them together at times.

If we started Williams, Anselem, Edwards up front next year, we’d actually look like Syracuse again - at least defensively in the paint. I miss the days of Grant, Fair, and Christmas just swallowing people up when they caught the ball on the baseline/near the basket.

I like Frank at the four as well. Buddy and cole need to be efficient in 11 threes before they are shooting 18. That means outside Girard more shots to rebound in the paint.

Frank is our best player off the bench and Sid can help for 5-10 mpg if/when he returns. He's only a sophomore. Imo, in his case, an off game is more attributed to youth than matchups. Without enough minutes he wont break that cycle through.

The only thing Benny and Symir need to do is help move the ball. Symir will find his scoring.

I hate to talk next year already, but if we go Symir, Joe, Benny, Frank, Jesse…..and just feed Jesse on the blocks and let Joe go all Glens Falls hog wild at the 2 and they both average 17-20, and Benny comes along as a solid 3rd option…..could we be good? We’d have big time size up front, should be able to defend. And could we have the type of offense that is more than the sum of its parts due to having a good low post player and a pass first veteran PG?

Tell me there’s a minor chance I’m right. We need this hope.

I’m still not sure which version of English you speak
