Syracuse University is in the process of hiring its next athletic director, but that hasn't kept the athletic department from making significant changes while it searches.

Syracuse has parted ways with three members of its athletic administration since the departure of Daryl Gross, removing Terry Donovan from his position as chief financial officer of the athletic department. Donovan had counseled Gross on budgetary issues since coming to Syracuse from Arizona State in 2011.

Donovan joins Joe Giansante, who was placed on administrative leave the day after Gross stepped down, as high-ranking officials that have been impacted since Gross' departure and the release of the NCAA's public report in early March. Both were senior associate athletic directors.

Gross' wife, Lael, who worked as an assistant athletics director for trademarks and licensing, will be leaving the university as well.

It's unclear if, how or when any of them will be replaced.

do you think this will have any impact on recruiting?i am concerned how parents of recruits may view this as athletic department instability or lack of university commitment and support to moving the program forward----or i am i being paranoid

We're getting a new AD (one who will most likely be football friendly), how could cleaning house of the old regime to create space for the new AD's underlings be viewed as a negative in any way shape or form?

Yep. If anything, it's going to be viewed as excising the people who were part of the problem (whether or not they actually were - that's how it's going to be perceived).

Gross was AD for 10 years, and Crouthamel for 27 before him. Where is the instability? I would bet that parents care more about who the coaches and academic support staff than who the AD is.

And Gross is being relieved to move the program forward, IMO.

yay on this, most especially on the departure of what appeared to be the nepotism hire of TGD's wife. This situation just never felt or smelled right to me.

Glad to see this movment, out with the old in with the new.

That's the SU way. Wasn't Cantor's husband given a job at SU? And Syverud's wife as well?

Cannot imagine this will have any impact on recruits. I doubt most of them didn't even realize these positions existed.

I agree - and color me not surprised that the chief financial officer has been removed based on reports of the finances under Daryl's leadership and Chancellor Kent's apparent focus on financial efficiency. I think we can somehow withstand the blow of Lael's departure also.

I rarely say this, but that was actually a good article by Carlson that covered the issues and changes well.

Apropos of nothing, any word on our NCAA appeal? Feels like something should have/could have happened there by now.

Why by now? We had to submit by April 20th I believe. That 14 days ago. I think the NCAA then takes at least 45-60 days to respond. That's another month or more.

i hope it impacts recruits and current players greatly.

i hope they realize to never give your wife a job, because if you get canned...shes out the door too...and therefore the household monthly income drops to 0.00

Not in the collegiate world, apparently.

No one loses a job, they get reassigned or put on paid leave.

It's utopia.

No impact, I'd wager.

not sure they cleaned house enough -
does the idiot who cant spell names on jersey's still have a job - plenty of proven morons in the su athletic dept

He was the first one to go. He wasn't the one who did the spelling, but ultimately it was his responsibility.

Hate saying I am happy to see people losing their jobs, but these moves needed to be made. Step in the right direction for the SUAD.

Clear the decks. All good.
No need to replace everybody, there needs to be some continuity. There are a bunch of people who should stay... some of them even post here.
