Also it depends somewhat on our relationship with the school. As a trustee or an alumni  board member or an alumni club President we also are officially a representative of the school, and may be held to a higher standard as far as what may or may not be acceptable as opposed to someone who is a good fan, or just a good donor. I know I am tied to the university as an official representative. I think Joyce's idea of checking with the school is a good approach to take if you are not sure of what is considered appropriate or not. I know this issue comes up all the time, and they try to cover it with us at our annual meetings. I had such a situation in December when the SU women's basketball team came  to AZ to play and we had some alum who wanted to bring students who were current high school players, and wanted to pay for their tickets. I ran this by compliance, not just to protect Syracuse University but also to protect a high school student who has the potential to play for a Div. 1 school someday, and did not want to do anything that might jeopardize their chances at a scholarship opportunity whether that be at Syracuse or any other school.
