Syracuse Football Sendoff to Deploying Fort Drum Soldiers (2013)

I imagine there had to have been a few friendships that were started from the trips up to Ft. Drum. As a retired AF First Sergeant there is nothing better than knowing that you are appreciated and that others are praying for your safe return. The follow-up to this is to make sure the troops get some needed care packages once they get there. There is nothing better than getting a few things from home; especially hand written letters from "family (SU family)" and friends letting the soilders know that they have not been forgotten and that our prayers are with them. The hardest time for me while I was deployed was always during the holidays. If anyone gets any info on whether SU will be putting together care packages please pass the word I would like to add to those packages. Thanks

Ahh thats so awesome.

I want to second everything that ol' 1SG said above. Nobody really writes letters anymore, I know. In the age of emails and facebook and all that jazz, letters are a pain. These guys are likely to be in a location where they dont have alot of access to the internet. I had a couple friends who used to send me random cards, and letters and it really made me feel good. Boxes of cookies and brownies from my grammy, I even had a member of my local American legion send me a whole box of McDonalnds cookies, lol. Basically anytime your name is called for mail, it instantly makes your day.

I'm not sure how many contacts I have left at Drum, but it would be awesome if we could get some names, and address' of their forward location. I know we are all busy, and have our own problems here at home, but we can all take 10 minutes a week to send out a letter, put together a package, and mail it out. Stick some news clippings of the team in there.

I'm down, and I'm sure many others are too, lets make it happen.

McDonald's chocolate chip cookies are amazing.

And that video is amazing. The relationship with Ft. Drum is such a no brainer that I can't believe this is such a new tradition.
