For those that don’t know. This article talks about how the Ryan family gave over $500mm to build a smaller stadium with lots of bells and whistles to create a better game day atmosphere. Their initial pledge was about $480mm, some to academics, and they upped the donation (doesn’t say how much) to assure money would not be siphoned from  “research, scholarship, student aid, tuition or staff and faculty support.” The Ryan family renovated the existing stadium in 1997. They also funded the new student/athletic center on campus about 5-7 years ago (world class athletic center with the greatest lake views that is open to all students). I worked on a really great hospital project in Streeterville called the Shirley Ryan Ability Center. It has an indirect tie to NW Medical Center “across the street”.
