GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The ACC leads all conferences with 11 schools ranked among the top 50 of the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Final Fall Standings. Seven ACC member institutions rank among the top 25, which ties for the most of any conference nationally. Clemson’s 2016 football national title highlighted the ACC’s fall sports success, along with NCAA runner-up finishes by Wake Forest in men’s soccer and North Carolina in field hockey. North Carolina, which also saw its men’s and women’s soccer teams reach the semifinals of the NCAA College Cup, finished third in the fall sports standings with 345 points. Virginia (244 points) placed 11th, followed by No. 12 NC State (241) and No. 13 Clemson (237). Florida State placed 16th with 210.5 points, while Syracuse holds the 17th spot at 209. No. 21 Louisville (195 points), No. 32 Wake Forest (165), No. 35 Notre Dame (155), No. 47 Duke (133) and No. 49 Virginia Tech (131.5) round out the ACC’s top 50 contingent. Boston College holds the 61st spot with 120 points, followed by No. 87 Pitt (75), No. 111 Miami (51) and No. 132 Georgia Tech (45). The ACC is one of three conferences to have all of its members ranked in the final fall standings. The first Division I winter standings will be released Thursday, March 23.
