to 1.2 ypc this year. Easily the best in the BE. That's incredible.

And that is against the Shell/Graham Pitt combo ... and also Rutgers and UConn ... three teams that notoriously make their hay running the football and Pitt and UConn have brutalized us that way in the past. You could say we've "turned the corner" with our run defense ... sorry couldn't help it :)

We must have outstanding talent on that side of the ball, because there's no way you scheme your way to those numbers. ;)

We are starting to win the battles at the point of attack. Our DT's are the difference this year. They are holding their gaps and allowing the LB's to get to the runner early.

SU was dialed in on how to stop a pro-style power run game. Pitt, Uconn, and Rutgers have similar offenses. Not much need to account for the QB.

The next three are very different.

Could this coincidence in scheduling actually be a benefit to us?

Three weeks in a row, tool the defense to get a push at the line, leave the middle of the field open, and prevent big plays deep.

The next three weeks, shift it to take up more space past the line of scrimmage to give scrambling QBs less of a chance to make a big play.

Same schemes for several games in a row. It doesn't seem like it would be a detriment, anyway.
