If you missed it...
...you didn't miss much. First time I attended since it was the first time the university made it easy for out-of-town STH to get tickets. Enjoyed the 16 minute scrimmage but that's about it. Sound system in the Dome is not made for an empty building. Really couldn't hear much of anything. Very little energy for most of the two hours.
The MC's were terrible. I assume the lip-syncing competition was added after Ace Hood was canceled and they couldn't come up with anything else to fill the time but come on!
Clearly this is built as a pep rally for the students and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! Hopefully they appreciated the evening's festivities more than I did.
On the brighter side, team looks EXTREMELY athletic, shot the ball very well from the perimeter and may be deeper than any team in recent memory. Baye is a little bigger, DaJuan is a bit sleeker and Rak is still Rak. Fair, Grant and Roberson may be the best trio of forwards in the country. Ennis plays with the control and confidence of a fifth year senior and Cooney showed what a great practice player looks like.
When the lights turn on it will be interesting to see if Gbinije ratchets up his aggressiveness and looks to contribute more. Didn't show me much in Canada and was more of the same last night. I just think he's got far too much athleticism and at least mid range shooting ability to be a complementary bench player.
B. J certainly needs to add some strength but he will be a major contributor if not this year then for the next three. And Patterson is all energy, all the time and will be a terror at the top of the zone.
Add to that a great meal at Francesca's pre-event and I'll consider the evening worth the 3 hour round trip.
