How does Melo become academically ineligible so late in the year, yet dozens of other athletics at numerous (SEC) colleges stop going to class and aren't academically ineligible?

Melo's stemmed from a first semester class and lack of overall credits for 3 semesters to show progress towards graduation, as I understand it.
