There's been some talk that McDonald's offense is better at picking up yards than points. Certainly was the case Saturday. But I thought it would be interesting to look at last year
Among all teams in 2013, there is a 72% correlation between yards per play and points per yard. Positive correlation but not perfect correlation. So there are plenty of teams that either score more or less than you'd expect given their yards.
SU wasn't one of those teams though, Syracuse was 102nd in both points per yard and yards per play last year.
This year, we're 97th in points per yard and 54th in yards per play.
I hate hate hate the bubble screens we run and maybe we're uniquely gifted at killing good drives. All it takes is a little more common sense about when to throw it and we'll be fine. Simple adjustment.
But people shouldn't just dismiss yards. Over the course of a season, yards and scoring are correlated. We should be able to score enough to get to a bowl. I hope the MD anomaly doesn't cost us because we don't have much wiggle room.
