14th toughest in the country of 358 teams. Jay Bilas also said on the Packer and Durham show this morning that he still thinks SU is a tournament team. Packer agreed with him.

this was a year that they couldve really used a weaker sched to start the season...all the new players make it hard to hit the ground running and JB overestimated what he had...but its hard bc scheds are made in advance...he tried to gear up for buddys last year and expected to have a powerhouse but doesnt.

But when are we not going to have a bunch of new players? With the transfer portal and the frequency of players jumping to the pros, faces are going to change. JG3 is a 3 year starter. Buddy is a 4th year player and 3 year starter. Edwards is a junior. The other starters are new to SU but are upperclassmen. That's probably more experience than what should be expected going forward.

Yikes. 6 teams with SOS above 150 and with a handful of losses

This is my concern too. Everyone (for the most part) is dealing with new pieces. Cuse should have been well-prepared to offset a couple new players. Having Edwards, Buddy and Joe with extensive experience is more than A LOT of teams have.

yes the new portal reality is new players every year, basically.

but jimmy cole and symir were contingency plans (i think)..I dont think they were in the fold when the schedule was made - they were stop gaps for players who would all have been returning with more experience than they have.

its not just maturity - its experience in the zone - takes a year at least, usually.

JB's formula doesnt fit this era as well as it did to the way things used to be.

but yeah - a lot of years lately - the team could use a weaker sched. good teams can benefit from tough sched - JB thought this was going to be a good team so he scheduled hard but his "calculations" were off.

How were they contingency plans? We nabbed them early in the process and turned away other guys.

I don't think these guys were "contingency guys". These were guys that Jim clearly went out and recruited (twice in the case of Cole and Symir). Again, the bigger issue is Jim and his problems building a roster at this point.

Three of the 5 starters have extensive experience in the system. I'm counting Edwards. It doesn't matter that this is his first year starting. If practice matters as JB insists it does, this is his third year in the system. Juniors that are developmental players should be ready to step right in. To his credit I think he has. Having 3 out of 5 starters in their third year in the system should be plenty.

If we could have benefited from a weaker schedule then that should be the plan going forward. We're not going to have teams with a lot more experience than this.

What's really being said is that we're not that talented. We've had less experienced teams do just fine against tough schedules.

the forwards have literally zero experience in the zone. swider has "never played this role before"...benny looks totally lost. the forwards are what makes the zone tick, imo. yes in terms of age and years of ncaabb it should be enough but i can see why its not.

i mean...im assuming they didnt want kadary and qg to leave...maybe im wrong on that. i guess they also wouldve liked it if braswell stayed too. as far as ag and woody...i think it wouldve been nice if woody stayed but they probably didnt beg him to. if they wanted all of them to leave i guess you are right, kinda.

assuming they didnt want some or all of those transfers to leave, then the incoming players are contingency players...because the schedule was made when qg kadary woody and braswell were still on the team...and expected to still be on the team!!!!

it wasnt early in the process in terms of this year's schedule.

We have bad loss to Colgate but a few other teams also had bad losses. "Bama just lost at home to Davidson and we have seen other teams blow up. Frankly 14-6 in ACC at a minimum will get us to the dance. That would put us 5th or at worst 6th position. We need to be there to get 2 games in the ACC Tournament to get 20 wins before Selection Sunday. I'm heading to Vegas for the 1st weekend and would not like to bet on Syracuse while they are playing the NIT. GO CUSE.

14 wins? Not sure about you, but nothing that I've seen thus far provides confidence that we will do much better than 10 wins. 14 wins would be remarkable, based on what I've watched. But don't get me wrong, I'll be watching every game hoping.

That's quite normal for power conference teams heading into conference season. Typically smaller conferences have better SOS's overall heading into conference play as they play on the road and often play tougher teams in buy games.

Remember P5's are playing more games at home and all teams play some level of creampuffs, all generally at home (and some more than others)

Remember the ACC isn't very good. As has been the case for this team since day one, they will have games where they look like world beaters and games where they look like they shouldn't be in D1. If they can get on a hot shooting streak and manage the defense in some credible way, they could have one of their better ACC records this year. So much is unknown though, especially with COVID pause which killed them last year.

I hear ya man. However, that was what we were expecting going into the season. Instead, we really have never looked like world beaters but certainly have looked like we don't belong.
