This game finally made it on Youtube, now we just need the 2003 game.

As down as ND was under Weiss (or as under achieving) its amazing SU won that game.
We had two punts blocked, 2 punts muffed, The worst collection of WR's since Rice Moss and Tim Lane, and a secondary that left a lot be desired.

A few thoughts after re-watching this game last night
-I remember Athrur Jones was dominate when I watched it live but man he was a man amongst boys out there. ND announcers were raving about him. Nick Santiago had a good game as well.
-As good as the two DT's were the D-ends were pretty much non-existent
- Despite the record that year the D did have some good players - Flaherty at LB, Chiara and Suter at safety both had good games against ND, Smith at LB flashed as well.
- Sales got some run as a frosh WR and had a few catches, Doug Hogue saw sometime at RB as well.
- Brinkley and Bailey was a heck of a combo. Bailey and that O-line dominated in the second half.
- That WR group was god awful. Dpnte Davis had the winning TD catch but when he's your #1 you know there is a problem. Lobdell was invisible, Merkerson had a few catches, and Van Chew got a grab late. I think Bruce Williams had been moved back to D again and was hurt at this point don't recall hearing his name.
Sean Riley is Deion Sanders compared to Mike Holmes returning punts in that game, yikes.
-Owen at TE was zero threat to catch the ball but did some good blocking in this game. A true frosh Provo had a catch.
-Fiametta was an underrated player, moved great for a fullback and was a threat in the passing game, had a huge catch on the game winning drive.
-Heard a lot of players names I hadn't heard in years that also brought back some less then fond memories but what a win by at that point a 2-8 team.
-Dantley while far from even an average QB did a commendable job with a poor WR unit but a great running game.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing

Only think I remember about that game, other than the win, was how dominated Jones was.

Your thread title gave me a chuckle - GRob's greatest win as if there are so many to choose from. Guess you could also consider the Louisville road win the year before, but I'd still go with this one.

Jones was fun to watch but just seeing some of those other names shows how lacking our talent was.

Wow- haven't watched this game since the night it happened. A few thoughts:

- Was down in a Philly hotel the night before the marathon with a bunch of other buddies from Syracuse- when SU scored we yelled so loud the front desk called and asked us to knock it off. Great moment. Marathon the next day in 24 degree weather? Not quite so great.

- Art Jones was an absolute beast.

- What sticks out to me now after quickly watching the last drive...we look like a mid-major. Amazing the difference in athletes that we have today even in our current state of affairs- which probably tells you just how much better the ACC is than the old Big East. Just my opinion.

- Not sure if anyone in college football made more $ than Charlie Weiss off of one good 10 win season...

I gotta watch it sometime this weekend. I remember Art Jones completely dominating; that is about it.

Here is something on the game from the Notre Dame perspective:

Ranking Every Charlie Weis Defeat at Notre Dame

I remember when ND was playing for an NC a couple of years ago, they asked the seniors for their lowest point at South Bend. I think that all of them pointed to the 2008 Syracuse game. I understand and agree.

What I remember from attending that game:

1. Art Jones was a one man show on D.
2. Ant Bailey's coming out party.
3. Not getting to enjoy the celebration much as snowballs were flying everywhere. Most directed at ND players, but some directed at us as well.

The crowd was angry that day my friends.

Was there as well. Went to the ND pep rally night before because I was guests of ND grads/locales. Fans were not happy at the end. Few things I remember:

1. I dressed completely wrong for the entire weekend. Never before was colder for a game.
2. Thoroughly impressed w the entire ND Campus. It's a special place.
3. Syracuse showed alot of guts and heart winning that game under those circumstances.

Been to 2 other ND games since then (the Cuse/ND at the Meadowlands 2014, ND/Navy 2011 in Ireland and i'm always impressed with their fans. Always been really nice and courteous. I saw the snowballs post gamein South Bend and I think it was more a case of fans having snow to throw for the first time at a game. I didn't detect them targeting SU fans. They were pissed about losing that game and it was really the beginning of the end for Charlie.

Those were truly dark times as I recognized like two names in your post.

Agree, not a reflection of the ND fans I've met now in 2 trips to South Bend.

I remember from the walk from pre-game bar to stadium, stopping to buy gloves. To go under the gloves I already had. Yeah, cold.

I've been lucky enough to see 2 games in South Bend. Both times the team I was rooting for were able to squeak out a win. I was at this snow covered game. Twenty years earlier, I was at the infamous Catholics versus Convicts game where #2 Notre Dame beat #1 Miami.

This game is the only reason I cannot truly and totally despise GRob. He's being interviewed on a national broadcast after the game following the hugest win of his thankfully short career, and he tells the interviewer not to ask him any questions until after the ND alma mater is finished playing. I thought that was very classy.

I admittedly didn't commit to Cuse football as a full time obsession until the end of the 09 season. So seriously - Cam Dantley was better than Robinson? He's AWFUL.

Art jones and bailey. Man they were amazing.
Golden Tate was a man amongst boy.
ND’s kicker... yeesh.
The play calling in the 4th quarter was borderline hilarious, we ran the same three plays and ND barely could stop any of them.

Beat me to it. This was the very reason that I like the guy. It didn’t work, but he showed himself as a class individual who could have rightfully celebrated, but instead showed respect in someone else’s house.

From what I remember Robinson was pretty much ruined by that point after taking a ridiculous amount of hits.

Speaks volumes about how bad the QB position was for so long that Greg Paulus could come in after playing b-ball for 4 years and be our best QB in years!

Watched most of the first half, I watched it live at the time. How did I ever stay a fan? The passing game is awful. There were only two teams worse in third down conversion in the entire country. Hard offense to watch.

Still, it felt better to fail with that offense than to get bubble screened into obscurity.

Wasn’t he fired shortly before this game?
