No way to know if these changes "benefit" Cuse. If you've seen the instructional video the NCAA put out, the faceoff rules are as mystifying as ever. And now, as I understand it, 3 violations by the faceoff guy or a wing becomes a 30 sec penalty. Players and fans will be confused all year by the (again) new rules and frustrated by the referees' excessive control the game. I realize this thought is contrary to what is sacred in the game, but since players and refs can't figure it out, why not stop the tinkering and just eliminate the faceoff after goals? In what other major sport does the team just scored on not get the ball? A quick restart after the goalie rakes it out would speed up the game, eliminate the crazy judgment calls at the X and make it flow better. And it would reduce the disproportionate influence IMO that faceoffs have on the game. THAT would benefit us, emphasizing speed and skill rather what's become a wrestling match. With apology in advance to all the current and future FOGOs out there.
