The price/value equation is important to kids and their parents. You can see this in schools like Northeastern, where 40 years ago they didn’t even register on the radar, but now they manipulate applications to make it appear that it’s a highly selective school. The rankings became reality and now kids are banging down the doors to get in there. SU not so much.

At one point, Syracuse was ranked on par with USC and BU. Now those schools have skyrocketed in rankings, popularity, and selectivity.  Meanwhile, SU has fallen significantly. I don’t know what they did to create that gap, but SU better do some gaming soon.

I’m not saying the rankings should dictate everything SU does or that the education a student receives has necessarily deteriorated, but perception is reality in higher education. And, right now, especially after that NYT admission fiasco article last year, SU is in a tough spot. The university needs to reup its prestige.
