I see what you are saying BUT my idea would be to extend the Irving Ave, side out but at the upper level of the dome thus being on stilts, so to say, above the docks or entries that you speak of.  Taking it a step further you could open that up, extend this platform out for a very large food/gathering/meeting place.  It could be an open concept with a high roof line so to let in the outdoors but still keping the eliments out.  Possibly part of a retractable roof concept.  Maybe a dream but if we are going to re-do the Dome why not reach for the stars.  I also feel strongly that individual seats need to be put in, line them up as orange and blue, givng the Dome additional color.  I think people are sick of battling with their neighbor for their own paid seat.  Colored seats would also give the Dome a fuller feeling when not "so full."  Yes we would lose some seating but I think seating for 45K is enough realistically.  I really want to see the football team stay on campus and feel the Dome is fine with some big time upgrades to bring it into the modern era.
