The rookie finished the race with just one shoe after losing one late in the race, en route to a first-place finish with a time of 3:47.85. The win continued a string of dominance for Knight, who has competed just three times individually for the Orange in his career, setting a pair of school records and now taking an ACC Championship in his freshman campaign. The Orange also got points from the 110-meter hurdles, with Freddie Crittenden (13.74) and Donald Pollitt (14.06) taking third and fourth respectively in the event. Another podium finish for Syracuse came from Shaina Harrison, who finished second in the 100-meter dash. Harrison's time of 11.36 was just .12 behind Sabria Hadley of Clemson, who took gold. Jessie Petersen brought home a bronze in the 5000-meters for the Orange, finishing in 16:13.60. On the men's side of the event, Martin Hehir and Virginia Tech's Thomas Curtin continued their rivalry, with Curtin taking this round of the 5000-meters after Hehir bested him in the event at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Hehir finished in 14:00.63, just over 1 second behind Curtin. Max Straneva took fifth for the Orange, crossing the line in 14:15.84. Other strong performances by 'Cuse from members of the squad who fell short of the podium began in the afternoon with Regine Hunter taking sixth in the triple jump. She leaped to a distance of 12.35 meters. In the 4x100-meter relays, the Syracuse women took seventh (45.43) and the men finished in eighth (41.31). At the end of the night, the Syracuse men finished in seventh overall (51 points) while the women's 33 points was good for 10th – a strong performance from both, especially factoring in that neither team competes with throwers and a limited jumpers roster. Next, members of the Orange who qualified will participate in the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Florida, beginning on May 28.
