Freshman standout Justyn Knight has been named ACC Men's Track Performer of the Week for the second time this season.
The rookie from Vaughan, Ontario has only raced twice individually in a Syracuse uniform, but both times he shattered school records, posted a top-seven time nationally and earned ACC Performer of the Week following his race.
This time, Knight bested the 25-year old Syracuse 5k record and shattered the Canadian Junior record which stood for 52 years by almost nine seconds at the Payton Jordan Invitational, hosted by Stanford.
Knight, raced to a second-place finish at the highly competitive meet with a time of 13:34.86. Teammate Martin Hehir finished right on his heels in 13:35.70.
Knight's time is the sixth-fastest nationally this season in the 5k and is the second-best qualifying time for the NCAA East Regional. He also owns the seventh-fastest time in the 1500-meters, an event which he holds the third-best qualifying time for the NCAA East Regional.
Knight will next compete at the ACC Championships on May 14 in Tallahassee, Florida.
