As an alum I say buy the shirt and root for the Orange. My parents didn't graduate from SU and they bled Orange. My Brother graduated from a different school and he bled Orange. Truthfully, I always mentally separate my love for our sports teams from my pride in the education I received at SU. My undergrad and grad years were meaningful to my life and career, while being an SU fan since age 8 (and I'm "mature" now) has been meaningful emotionally. Truthfully, only one of my friends from SU stayed a fan of the teams after graduation. You will be a fan for life. Totally going off on a tangent but the term "tee shirt fan" caused me to remember something. Years ago, I worked with a very vocal Penn State fan. He had attended a small DIII school but was from the Philly area and a lifelong PSU fan. We had a football bet on the SU/PSU game with the loser giving the winner a tee shirt from the loser's school. Makes no sense in hindsight but that was the bet. Don McPherson, my second favorite player after Ernie, came out throwing and the rest is history. When the guy gave me the PSU shirt, I loudly proclaimed to our friends who had gathered for the "ceremony" that I would never wear it but I would use it to clean the slush from my headlights in the winter. The guy got really upset and would never bet with me again... Good times, good times.
